(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 13, in Vinh City, a seminar on "ASEAN Community - Opportunities and Challenges" took place.with the participation of representatives of many agencies and businesses in the province.

Attending the workshop were comrades: Ambassador Vu Dang Dung - Former Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to ASEAN, Director of the ASEAN Department - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nguyen Son - Deputy Director, Deputy Office of the Inter-sectoral Steering Committee for International Economic Integration, Le Ngoc Hoa - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Also attending the workshop were nearly 150 delegates who were leaders of provincial departments, branches, and organizations, leaders of districts, cities, and towns, leaders and experts of some departments of provincial and district departments, branches, and organizations, and members of the Association of Outstanding Enterprises, Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, Association of Young Entrepreneurs, and VCCI.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established on August 8, 1967 with five initial members. Through many ups and downs, ASEAN has now fundamentally transformed in quality and is moving towards the formation of the ASEAN Community by the end of 2015.

To date, ASEAN has implemented nearly 93.8% of the total of more than 800 specific action measures set out in the 2015 ASEAN Community Roadmap at different levels in each pillar, of which the Political-Security Community reached 90%, the Economic Community reached 91.5% and the Socio-Cultural Community reached nearly 100%.

With the motto of “proactive, active and responsible” in participating in ASEAN cooperation, Vietnam has made important contributions to the development of ASEAN in general and the goal of realizing the ASEAN Community in particular. Vietnam has fully and extensively participated in all areas of cooperation, making important contributions to the maturity and growth of ASEAN.

Ambassador Vu Dang Dung - Former Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to ASEAN, Director of the ASEAN Department - Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented the content of the implementation of building the ASEAN Community and Vietnam's participation.

Comrade Nguyen Son - Deputy Director, Deputy Office of the Steering Committee for International Economic Integration, summarized the situation of negotiations and signing of free trade area agreements in 2015 and provided information about the ASEAN Economic Community.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Le Ngoc Hoa - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that the event of Vietnam joining the ASEAN community on December 31, 2015 will bring Nghe An province in general and Nghe An enterprises in particular opportunities for development as well as challenges to overcome. Therefore, equipping people with knowledge about ASEAN integration to take advantage of opportunities and limit challenges is necessary when the time of forming the ASEAN Community is approaching.

Besides, comrade Le Ngoc Hoa affirmed that Nghe An has many potentials and advantages, plays an important role in economic exchange, trade, tourism, and transport of goods domestically, regionally and internationally, has an important geo-economic position, has full natural conditions and ensures infrastructure for integration and development.

Comrade Le Ngoc Hoa - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed that Nghe An has sufficient natural conditions and infrastructure for integration and development.

The workshop with useful topics helped delegates update basic knowledge about ASEAN and its three main pillars, focusing on the ASEAN Economic Community. In addition, the topics also created conditions for Nghe An enterprises to better understand the opportunities and challenges of ASEAN integration and propose solutions to enhance opportunities, limit challenges, and at the same time answer questions and concerns of enterprises.
