Nghe An province has 13 more communes that have achieved the standards of model and advanced new rural areas.

The meeting took place on the morning of June 28th in Vinh City, chaired by Comrade Nguyen Van De - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial Council for the Appraisal and Recognition of New Rural Areas. Also in attendance were representatives from relevant departments and agencies that are members of the Appraisal Council, and representatives from the People's Committees of the relevant communes and districts.

At the meeting, on behalf of the Standing Committee of the Appraisal Council, the leader of the Provincial Rural Development Coordination Office reported on the results of rural development and achievement of new rural standards in Hung Nguyen district, so that provincial members could add their opinions before voting and submitting it to the Provincial People's Committee for approval.

Furthermore, the report from the Appraisal Council indicates that, among the 13 communes, three communes building model new rural areas – Quynh Luong (Quynh Luu), Thanh Linh (Thanh Chuong), and Nam Thanh (Nam Dan) – still had some outstanding conditions and criteria, but these have now been addressed. Therefore, these three communes have also been included in the list submitted to the Council for voting. Similarly, the remaining 10 communes building advanced new rural areas initially had some unmet conditions and criteria, but these have now been completed and included in the list for voting.

Next, the meeting also heard reports on the results of the verification and recognition of model new rural areas and advanced new rural areas for 13 communes included in this review list. Specifically, these are Tay Hieu commune (Thai Hoa town); Nam Linh, Thuong Tan Loc, Nam Thanh (Nam Dan); Ngoc Son, Quynh Luong (Quynh Luu); Hung Chinh (Vinh city); Thuong Son, Thinh Son, Van Son, Xuan Son (Do Luong); Nghia Dong (Tan Ky) and Thanh Linh (Thanh Chuong).

At the meeting, representatives from the New Rural Development Coordination Office also reported and sought opinions on the case of reconsidering and re-recognizing Muong Ngoc commune (Que Phong district) as meeting the new rural development standards, in order to eliminate the district that previously lacked new rural development status. Previously, Que Son commune was recognized as meeting the standards but was merged into Muong Ngoc, so further consideration is needed.

Based on discussions and additional feedback, the Provincial Council for Review and Evaluation of New Rural Areas voted unanimously (20 out of 21 votes) to approve 13 communes, including 3 communes that meet the standards of model new rural areas and 10 communes on the list of communes that meet the standards of advanced new rural areas in 2024.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van De, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Chairman of the Provincial Council for Review and Appraisal of New Rural Areas, commended the efforts of the 13 communes recognized as model and advanced new rural areas in this round. He also requested the relevant districts and communes to complete the necessary procedures for submission to the Provincial People's Committee for signing the recognition decision; and to continue improving and maintaining the quality of the achieved criteria.

Thus, by June 2024, in addition to 319 out of 411 communes that have met the new rural standards, with the addition of 10 communes meeting the advanced new rural standards, Nghe An province will have 93 communes meeting the advanced new rural standards; 15 communes meeting the model new rural standards; and in the near future, if Hung Nguyen district also meets the new rural standards, there will be 10 out of 21 district-level units meeting the new rural standards and 212 villages and hamlets meeting the new rural standards.
