Nghe An has an athlete participating in the Olympics after 36 years.
(Baonghean.vn) - Last night (April 28), at the Asian Weightlifting Championships held in Uzbekistan, Nghe An athlete Le Thi Tham won a silver and a bronze medal, securing a ticket to the Rio Olympics.(Brazil)next August.
In the 69 kg weight category, Le Thi Tham performed excellently, winning a silver medal in the clean and jerk (120 kg) and a bronze medal in the total lift (210 kg).

The Asian Championships also served as the qualifying round for the 2016 Olympics. Weightlifters competed in team events, with the top six teams securing a spot at the 2016 Rio Olympics. With one silver and one bronze medal, Nguyen Thi Tham earned the Vietnamese women's weightlifting team an additional 28 points. With a total of 112 points, Vietnam is currently leading the group of countries needing points to qualify for the 2016 Olympics.

Along with her ticket to the Rio 2016 Olympics, Le Thi Tham is the second athlete from Nghe An province to have the honor of participating in an Olympic Games. Previously, in 1980, track and field athlete Tran Thi Soa competed in the 1,500m race at the Moscow Olympics.
Le Thi Tham was born in 1992 in Dien Thang commune (Dien Chau district). From 2011 to the present, Le Thi Tham has consistently won gold medals at the National Weightlifting Championships and is one of the most accomplished athletes from Nghe An province still competing. In 2015, Tham won a gold medal at the Southeast Asian Weightlifting Championships and was a delegate representing the sports sector at the Nghe An Provincial Emulation Congress for the period 2010-2015. |
