Nghe An will host the 2025 National Traditional Wrestling Championship.
On the morning of May 14th, at the Nam Dan District Gymnasium, the Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the Department of Physical Education and Sports, organized the 29th National Traditional Wrestling Championship in 2025.

Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; representatives from the Department of Physical Education and Sports; representatives from the Vietnam Wrestling Federation; and representatives from provincial and local departments and agencies.

This year's National Traditional Wrestling Championship is being held in Nam Dan district, a land of rich history and culture that has produced many distinguished figures and outstanding individuals for the country, such as Mai Hac De, Phan Boi Chau, and especially President Ho Chi Minh - the national liberation hero and World Cultural Figure. The timing of the National Traditional Wrestling Championship in May holds special significance, as it is one of the activities in the series of events for the 2025 Lang Sen Festival.

Furthermore, the tournament serves as a reminder to the younger generation of the origins of the nation-building and national defense history. Traditional wrestling has a strong vitality, closely linked to the lifestyle and work of many Vietnamese people, and is associated with the importance of physical training to protect villages and the country. It was in Nam Dan that Mai Thuc Loan, also known as Mai Hac De, chose to establish his headquarters and raise the banner of rebellion. Legend says that Mai Hac De was very fond of traditional wrestling and taught it to his soldiers to fight off invaders. Today, traditional wrestling is practiced in many localities across the country, becoming a distinctive cultural feature that attracts thousands of people and tourists from all over.

In order to promote and honor the beauty of national culture, the 2025 National Traditional Wrestling Championship will bring together 17 delegations of athletes from provinces, cities, and sectors with strong traditional wrestling movements nationwide, with nearly 200 wrestlers competing in 18 weight categories, promising to bring exciting and captivating matches to wrestling enthusiasts.
The competition took place from May 12th to 18th.
