Nghe An province is stepping up the application of information technology in 5 areas.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 12th, the Provincial People's Committee held a working session with VNPT to evaluate the results after one year of implementing the telecommunications and information technology strategy for the period 2014-2020.

Comrade Le Ngoc Hoa - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - presided over the meeting. Also attending were leaders from the Department of Information and Communications, representatives from VNPT in Nghe An, the Department of Health, and the Department of Education and Training.

On September 13, 2014, the Provincial People's Committee and the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group signed a memorandum of strategic cooperation on telecommunications and information technology for the period 2014-2020 with five contents: Cooperation in the field of building telecommunications and IT infrastructure; application of IT; improving solutions to ensure information safety and security; development of telecommunications and information technology human resources; and IT industry.

Comrade Le Ngoc Hoa chaired the meeting.

At the meeting, the leaders of the Department of Information and Communications reported on the assessment after one year of cooperation: Accordingly, the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group has built sufficient infrastructure and is always ready to provide services and implement the construction of e-government in the province.

Currently, Nghe An has over 1,000 2G and 3G BTS stations covering over 80% of the region's area, with mobile coverage extending to all commune centers throughout the province, including remote and isolated areas. The corporation has also implemented VNEdu education management in schools, achieving a 95% rate of IT application in schools across the province. In the healthcare sector, the pilot application of IT in the management of medical examinations, treatment, and health insurance payments has yielded high efficiency, contributing to reducing the burden on hospitals and providing faster and more efficient services for patients.

Another very successful outcome after a year of cooperation is that the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group has provided online conference transmission lines from the central government to the People's Committees of provinces and cities, and online conferences from the Provincial People's Committees to the People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities. It has also provided a messaging system for rescue and disaster prevention alerts...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Director of VNPT in Nghe An, affirmed that VNPT is ready to cooperate and provide the best IT applications for the development of various sectors in Nghe An province.

During the meeting, VNPT leaders in Nghe An reported on the Group's plans for 2016 and the coming years. Specifically, from now until the end of 2016, they aim to achieve 100% 2G and 3G network coverage; 100% of schools in the area will apply IT; and they will expand the application of IT in healthcare and health insurance payments, especially by linking medical data networks within hospitals and other medical facilities.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Le Ngoc Hoa, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized: Although some initial results have been achieved, the implementation of IT in the fields as agreed upon is still slow. In the coming time, VNPT is requested to closely follow the priority project lists under the e-government scheme, based on the Group's comparative advantages, to participate in bidding and implementation in the five areas agreed upon in the cooperation agreement. Regarding healthcare services, schools, public administration services, etc., VNPT needs to implement them more effectively, aiming to provide the best, most convenient, and fastest services to the people. The Department of Information and Communications is requested to finalize the report and submit it to the Provincial People's Committee as soon as possible.
