According to local producers, the fish sauce making process in Phu Loi remains faithful to traditional methods. The raw material is anchovies caught by local fishermen and supplied to the production facilities. After purchasing, the fish are washed, marinated with salt, and placed in barrels, jars, and containers to be sun-dried for 12 to 18 months before the finished fish sauce can be extracted.
The Phu Loi fish sauce village currently has 300 households involved in the craft, supplying 2 to 2.5 million liters of fish sauce to the market each year. This village was recognized by the People's Committee of Nghe An province in 2005 and has a tradition of making fish sauce for hundreds of years.
