Nghe An: Pineapple harvest is abundant, prices are nearly double last year.

The weather is entering the hot season, and at the same time, farmers are busy.Quynh Luu district(Nghe An) people are harvesting pineapples with joy, celebrating a bountiful harvest and good prices.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Tuyen, residing in Hamlet 1, Tan Thang Commune (Quynh Luu District), happily shared that his family currently cultivates nearly 10 hectares of rice.pineappleQueen, this year, due to favorable weather conditions, pineapples have yielded high productivity and good quality, reaching approximately 30 tons/ha. Because they are planted in staggered seasons, the family started harvesting in early March and have now completed half of the area. The pineapples aretradersThe produce is purchased directly from the orchards and then transported by truck to cities and towns for consumption. Since the beginning of the season, traders have been able to buy at good prices, ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 VND/kg (depending on the type). In contrast, in previous years, the price was only 3,000 to 4,000 VND/kg.

Tan Thang commune has the largest area of ​​commercial pineapple cultivation in Quynh Luu district. Mr. Phan Van Tuan, the agricultural officer in charge of Tan Thang commune, said: Currently, there are 500 hectares of pineapple ready for harvest in the commune. This year, farmers are delighted because the price of pineapples has reached a peak of 7,000 VND/kg, a rare price.

According to Mr. Tuan, there are three reasons for the high price of pineapples this year: Firstly, traders have established sales channels in the southern provinces; secondly, farmers are no longer planting pineapples in concentrated areas as before, but are planting them in staggered seasons, thus extending the harvest period over several months, avoiding oversupply and price manipulation; and thirdly, farmers are investing in and mastering scientific and technical methods in cultivation.

Pineapples in Quynh Luu are grown by farmers using intensive farming methods and proper investment, resulting in yields of 25-30 tons/ha, with some areas reaching 35 tons/ha. Mr. Le Trung Kien, a land and transportation official in Quynh Thang commune, Quynh Luu district, explained that the high pineapple yields are due to farmers switching from the Cayen variety to the Queen variety, which is of better quality, with larger and more attractive fruits.

Nghe An province currently has nearly 1,300 hectares of pineapple, with Quynh Luu district having the largest pineapple growing area in the province, at 1,000 hectares. Due to staggered planting, farmers harvest pineapples from the beginning of March to the beginning of July.
