Nghe An: Late-season pineapples fetch good prices.

(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, people in the mountainous communes of Quynh Luu district are urgently harvesting the last pineapples of the season; due to increased demand, the price of pineapples has been pushed up from 4,000 VND to 6,000 VND/kg.

This year, Mr. Nguyen Trong Thinh in Hamlet 7, Quynh Chau Commune, planted 2 hectares of pineapples. Due to planting late, about 6 sao (approximately 0.6 hectares) of pineapples are now ripe and ready for harvest. Because it's the end of the season, traders are buying them at a high price of 6,000 VND/kg. With 6 sao of pineapples currently being harvested, averaging 4-5 tons per sao, Mr. Thinh's family will earn 150 million VND from this year's pineapple crop.

According to local residents, due to the end of the season, the pineapple harvest is not abundant, and traders are competing to buy them. When pineapples ripened in large quantities, the purchase price was only 3,500-4,000 VND/kg; however, at this time, the price has risen to 6,000 VND, and sometimes even 8,000 VND/kg.

In Tan Thang commune, farmers are also urgently harvesting the last pineapple crops of the season. Traders come directly to the farms to buy pineapples from the farmers, then transport them to Thanh Hoa, Vinh, and Ha Tinh for sale. Currently, farmers are growing two varieties of pineapple: Queen and Caien, each with different characteristics but both yielding high productivity.

According to Mr. Lang Dinh Liem, Vice Chairman of the Tan Thang Commune People's Committee, the locality has 440 hectares of pineapple cultivation area, of which about 120 hectares are ready for mass harvest, while 50 hectares are harvested by farmers at the end of the season. This year's pineapple yield reached 33 tons/ha, 5 tons/ha higher than last year.

The entire Quynh Luu district has approximately 700 hectares of pineapple cultivation, concentrated in mountainous communes such as Tan Thang, Quynh Thang, Quynh Chau, and the Youth Volunteer Brigade. Each year, the pineapple production reaches about 10,000 tons, generating tens of billions of VND in revenue.

This year's pineapple harvest in Quynh Luu has brought joy to farmers, who are enjoying both a bountiful crop and good prices. With purchase prices starting from 5,000 VND per hectare, people are beginning to make a profit. On average, one hectare of pineapples yields an income of 500 million VND per harvest.
