Nghe An leads the country in handling pesticide residues.

(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An is one of the provinces with the largest number of pesticide warehouses in the country with 913 locations left over from the war and subsidy periods.

According to Decision No. 1946/QD-TTg dated October 21, 2010 of the Prime Minister approving the Plan for handling and preventing environmental pollution caused by residual pesticides nationwide, Nghe An is the province with the most points in the country with 189/240 residual pesticide points in Appendix I and 79/95 residual points in Appendix II.

Implementing the above plan of the Prime Minister, from 2011 to 2015, Nghe An has conducted 22 projects to investigate and survey to determine the scope of pollution levels for 178 points of pesticide residue; 102 points have been investigated, of which 40 points must be treated, 61 points must be rehabilitated and restored, 1 point only needs monitoring; and 76 points are being investigated, surveyed and assessed. Of which, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment is in charge of implementing 149 points (of which 3 points arise not included in Decision No. 1946/QD-TTg), the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is in charge of implementing 32 points.

Up to now, Nghe An has been implementing 20 projects (21 locations) to treat environmental pollution caused by pesticide residues; of which 6 projects have completed acceptance and returned the site to the locality, 5 projects have completed the treatment works, 7 projects are in the process of implementation. Coordinated implementation of 2 projects in the POP Project program to support the excavation of heavily polluted soil for treatment by high temperature incineration.

Through the summary of 5 years of implementing Decision No. 1946/QD-TTg dated October 21, 2010 of the Prime Minister and the National Target Program, Nghe An is considered the leading province in the country in implementing projects to handle pesticide residues.
