Nghe An: Nearly 110,000 households lack water for daily use after the storm

July 17, 2017 16:40

(Baonghean.vn) - Of the 14 water supply plants in the province, only the plant located in Con Cuong was not affected by the storm.

Nghe An Water Supply Joint Stock Company said that by 1:30 p.m. on July 17, the unit had just fixed the problem at Hung Vinh Water Plant, supplying water to more than 68,000 households in Vinh City. This is the water plant serving the most households in the province that had its water "cut off" after storm No. 2. Meanwhile, also in Vinh City and some neighboring localities, more than 13,000 households using water from Cau Bach Plant are suffering from a lack of domestic water because the plant has not yet had its electricity restored.

“Out of 14 water plants in the province, 13 were affected, nearly 110,000 households lost water after storm No. 2. Only the water plant in Con Cuong was not affected. Up to now, in addition to Hung Vinh, there are also water plants in Ky Son, Tuong Duong and Nam Dan with about 5,000 households that have just been restored,” said a leader of Nghe An Water Supply Company, adding that the remaining plants with more than 30,000 households still have to depend on electricity.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Loi - Deputy Director of Nghe An Electricity Company, said that the unit is contacting a number of companies to construct and repair damaged power infrastructure after the storm. "The electricity industry in Nghe An has never been as severely affected as it is now. Every district has lost power, and in mountainous districts, power poles have broken and fallen in large numbers. It will take a long time to restore the power systems throughout the province," said Mr. Loi.

According to the report of Nghe An Electricity Company, starting from 8:30 p.m. on July 16, strong gusts of wind caused widespread power outages. Most of the medium voltage lines were cut off, some lines were proactively cut by electricity staff. Specifically, 105/115 medium voltage lines were damaged. By the end of the afternoon of July 17, only 40 lines had been closed, including 16 35 KV lines, 15 22 KV lines and 9 10 KV lines.

Nghe An Electricity Company said it is directing units to urgently review and inspect power lines after the storm to restore power. Units are focusing on repairing minor problems such as broken porcelain and clearing corridors. Meanwhile, major problems such as broken wires and fallen poles are isolated and have plans to be assigned to contractors to fix. The immediate focus is on repairing the medium voltage section./.
