Nghe An: Nearly 17,500 economic establishments are operating without business registration.

Compared to the rest of the country, Nghe An has a large number of survey sites and a vast and complex geographical area. However, the 2017 Economic Census still achieved remarkable results. The review of businesses and the compilation of lists of administrative units in the province were carried out carefully and accurately. The Steering Committee organized professional training for surveyors and supervisors; and the dissemination of information was intensified.

The survey of businesses and administrative and public service units was conducted from April 1, 2017, and completed within 75 days; the province has 8,431 businesses and 4,878 administrative and public service units. The survey of individual businesses and propaganda units was conducted from July 1 to 30, 2017; by July 30, 2017, all survey forms had been collected and completed ahead of schedule, covering 158,377 individual businesses and 541 religious and belief establishments.

Preliminary results from the 2017 economic census show that: The province has 4,878 establishments in the administrative and public service sector with 100,923 employees, of which 62,672 are women; 8,341 businesses were surveyed with 196,607 employees, of which 79,153 are women; for the individual sector, the survey revealed over 100,000 economic establishments without business registration certificates; and 17,480 establishments that were not registered.

Despite the commendable results, the 2017 Economic Census still had some limitations and shortcomings. Some district-level steering committees were hesitant and passive, showing signs of delegating all responsibility to commune-level steering committees, leading to limited survey quality; public awareness campaigns in some localities were inadequate; and the survey itself faced many difficulties, especially in the business and religious sectors, due to limited cooperation that did not meet requirements.

In 2018, the Provincial Steering Committee for the General Economic Census decided to continue implementing reasonable solutions and improving the quality of the census to better serve the socio-economic development of the province.

For their outstanding achievements, at the conference, one individual received a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister; four collectives and seven individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and 62 collectives and 277 individuals received Certificates of Commendation from the Director of the Provincial Statistics Department.
