Nghe An: Nearly 518 billion VND to support house construction for the poor and people with difficult housing circumstances

Based on the report on the results of the general review of poor households by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, on October 1, 2019, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee agreed on the policy of calling for the mobilization of social resources to support poor households to improve their housing with the goal of building 1,200 Great Solidarity houses for poor households towards the 130th Anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's Birthday (May 19, 2020); in the immediate future, priority will be given to families with revolutionary contributions, poor households with special difficulties and no ability to work (orphans, people with disabilities, lonely elderly people with no place to rely on) in the period of 2020 - 2022.

In the period of 2020 - 2022, the whole province mobilized resources to support the construction and repair of more than 4,500 houses for poor households, near-poor households, and households with housing difficulties; of which 3,870 new houses were built and more than 630 houses were repaired with a total cost of more than 177 billion VND.

However, Nghe An is the largest locality in the country, with over 83% of its area being high mountains, steep and fragmented terrain, and is frequently affected by natural disasters and floods, so the living conditions of a part of the population still face many difficulties, especially in terms of housing.

Although Party committees and authorities at all levels have made great efforts in poverty reduction, the province still has more than 55,000 poor households and more than 53,000 near-poor households; of which 15,300 households are facing housing difficulties, including 9,200 households in need of building new houses and more than 6,100 households in need of repairing houses.

Therefore, on the occasion of the 93rd Anniversary of the Party's Founding Day (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2023), the Standing Committee of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee agreed to organize a launching ceremony of the campaign to support the construction of houses for the poor and people with housing difficulties in Nghe An province for the period 2023 - 2025. Nghe An has established a Steering Committee at the provincial, district and commune levels on mobilizing and supporting the construction of houses for poor and near-poor households, with the Party Secretary as the head of the steering committee, in which at the provincial level the Provincial Party Secretary is the head of the committee.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, sharing and sympathizing with the difficult and arduous circumstances of the people in the Central region in general and Nghe An in particular, a place that often suffers from natural disasters, former President Truong Tan Sang welcomed the policy of Nghe An province in organizing this very meaningful program.

Appreciating the way the province has established a Steering Committee headed by the Provincial Party Secretary, the former President believes that with a methodical approach, close attention from the Party Committee and widespread response, the program will be successful. In particular, comrade Truong Tan Sang highly appreciated the implementation with the viewpoint of taking "internal strength as decisive, external strength as important, turning external strength into internal strength" of Nghe An, thereby mobilizing widespread support inside and outside the province to implement the program.

Based on the mobilized support, comrade Truong Tan Sang noted that building houses for poor households does not only eliminate temporary houses in the normal sense, but also needs to calculate and solidify the houses so that people can use them stably for 20 to 30 years.

Appreciating the sentiments and contributions of units and individuals in the program and highly appreciating Nghe An's methodical implementation, former President Truong Tan Sang believes that the program will be basically completed in 2 years, one year ahead of schedule compared to the set plan.

Speaking to call for support for the program, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province Nguyen Duc Trung affirmed that Nghe An always identifies hunger eradication and poverty reduction as a strategic, long-term task and one of the important criteria to evaluate the implementation of social security policies.

With the fine traditions of Nghe An people, along with the implementation of the integration of 3 National Target Programs for the period 2021-2025, Nghe An province has issued many specific mechanisms and policies to support the poor and people in difficult circumstances, creating sustainable livelihoods to help people escape poverty.

Regarding the Program to mobilize support for building houses for the poor and people with housing difficulties in Nghe An province in the period of 2023 - 2025, the Provincial Party Standing Committee will focus on leadership and direction to strive to successfully implement the set goals, supporting 15,300 households facing housing difficulties in the province.

With the humanitarian meaning of joining hands for the poor, not leaving anyone behind, the Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee earnestly calls on all levels, sectors, enterprises, businessmen, philanthropists, organizations, individuals inside and outside the province... to promote the tradition of solidarity, mutual love, mutual assistance, the rich helping the poor, the less torn helping the more torn, with the spirit of sharing food and clothes to participate in contributing, supporting, helping poor families and households in difficult circumstances to have solid houses, creating conditions for the poor to settle down, work, and stabilize their lives.
