Among the teams participating in the 2017 National Excellent Student Competition, Physics is the subject that left the most outstanding impressions of the Nghe An delegation with 4 first prizes. In particular, Le Nhat Minh was the valedictorian. With this achievement, the Physics team had 7/10 students continue to be selected to the second round to compete in the national team to participate in regional and international Olympic competitions.

Meeting Le Nhat Minh in the first days of the new year, the 11A3 student of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted said: “I am very happy with the results I have achieved, but this is really just the beginning. This will also help me be more confident in the upcoming entrance exam.”

Regarding the Nghe An Physics team participating in the national excellent student competition this year, although there were no outstanding students like Nguyen Tat Nghia, Cao Ngoc Thai... in previous years, their abilities were very even. All 10 students participating in the team won official prizes with 4 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes, achieving the highest record ever for the Physics team.

In addition to the national valedictorian Le Nhat Minh, the remaining members such as Tran Huu Binh Minh, Dang Hoang Long, Nguyen Thanh Binh also achieved very high scores, among the top in the country. In nearly 10 years, this is also the first time the Physics team has had an outstanding female face, Nguyen Thi Tra Giang - 3 years ago, she won the first prize in the provincial Physics competition when she was a student at Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School (Do Luong).

Ngu Thi Ha Trang, class 12C2, is also an outstanding female face among the Nghe An candidates who won first prize in the national excellent student competition this year. Trang began her love for History when she was a junior high school student at Le Hong Phong Secondary School (Hung Nguyen). After passing the entrance exam to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, under the guidance of her homeroom teacher Bui Thi Bich Hau, she had more conditions to develop her strengths.

In grade 11, when she was called to the national excellent student competition team, Trang did not disappoint everyone when she excellently won the second prize. In Literature, Ho Ngan Hanh and Cao Nguyen Quynh Trang were also outstanding faces when they won the second prize (the whole North did not have a first prize). This is also one of the highest achievements in the past few years, the result of many years of effort from both teachers and students.

This year, Nghe An delegation had 101 students participating in the national excellent student competition, all of whom were students of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted. With 88 students winning prizes, Nghe An ranked 3rd nationwide (after Hanoi and Hai Phong). However, in terms of quality of prizes, Nghe An is the leading province nationwide with a prize winning rate of 87%. Of these, 6/10 subjects had a 100% prize winning rate, such as Physics, Chemistry, English, Biology, Mathematics and Geography.

In addition, in terms of individuals, there were many outstanding awards, such as Chemistry, with 2 students winning First Prize, 2 students winning Second Prize. Mathematics, with 10/10 students winning Second Prize, English with 5 students winning Second Prize, Informatics, Biology each with 2 students winning Second Prize... In addition to natural subjects, Nghe An also continued to affirm its strength in social subjects, in which History had one student winning First Prize, Literature, Geography had 2 students winning Second Prize and many students winning Third Prize and Encouragement Prize.

Evaluating this year's results, teacher Ngo Xuan Phuc - Vice Principal of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted said: This year, the results of national excellent students in 63 provinces and cities across the country have changed significantly. Among them, many provinces and cities have made remarkable progress such as Ha Tinh and Binh Duong (the number of excellent students doubled). In addition, some provinces and cities have a tradition but the results have gone down.

In that context, the fact that Nghe An continues to be in the top 3 of the country and has a high rate of successful students is a very proud achievement. To achieve this result, from the beginning of the school year, the school has developed a very specific selection and training plan. In addition, it selects dedicated, professional, capable and experienced teachers to lead and guide the team.

Notably, 2017 was also the first year that the Department of Education and Training gave Phan Boi Chau High School the authority to autonomously create exam questions and select teams. Through this, it was able to select worthy and capable students to participate in the most important exam of the year organized by the Ministry of Education and Training.

In addition to the achievements of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, the 2017 national excellent student competition also marked the remarkable progress of the Vinh University High School for the Gifted team with 23 students winning prizes. In particular, in Mathematics alone, with 2 Second Prizes, 4 Third Prizes and 3 Encouragement Prizes, the school was in the top 5 units with the highest achievements.

Teacher Le Xuan Son - Vice Principal of Vinh University High School for the Gifted said: In the past year, the school has made many innovations in recruiting and nurturing excellent students. On that basis, we orient and create all conditions for each student to develop their strengths.

With this result, more than 20 students from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and Vinh University High School for the Gifted will continue to be selected for the second round to select the national team for international competitions. We believe that with the tradition of a studious homeland and high determination, there will be many new joys for Nghe An education in 2017.
