Nghe An: Elementary school teacher uses ruler to beat student, sending him to hospital.

(Baonghean.vn) - Outraged by students' poor performance on assignments, teacher Quang Thi Huong of Dien Lam Primary School, Quy Chau (Nghe An) used a ruler to hit 23 students, one of whom was hit on the head and had to be hospitalized.

This information was confirmed by Mr. Bui Hoang Bau, Deputy Head of the Education Department of Quy Chau District. "After receiving the information, this afternoon (March 17), the department sent officials to the school to directly inspect and propose a solution."

Speaking to Nghe An Newspaper, Mr. Pham Truong Son, the school principal, said: "The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (March 15th) in class 4A, which is taught by Ms. Quang Thi Huong. At that time, because the results of the Vietnamese and Math tests (in preparation for the midterm exam) of class 4A were low, Ms. Quang Thi Huong, feeling very disappointed, used a ruler (a flexible plastic ruler) to hit the hands, buttocks, and other areas of 23 out of 27 students in the class."

The following day, a student in the class complained of pain, prompting the parents to meet directly with the principal to report the incident. Upon receiving this information, the school requested that teacher Quang Thi Huong write a self-criticism report and provide an account of the event.

At the same time, the school also met with each parent and student to reassure them and encourage them to return to school as normal. Student Tuan Anh, who was hit on the head, was also taken by his family to Tay Bac General Hospital for examination and treatment.

It is known that teacher Quang Thi Huong previously taught in Ky Son district and only transferred to Dien Lam Primary School about 6 years ago. She was previously recognized as an excellent teacher in the district. Following this incident, teacher Pham Truong Son stated that the school will hold a council meeting to consider appropriate disciplinary action.
