The 2026-2027 10th grade entrance exam will have several changes compared to the previous year. Notably, candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam will not be allowed to change their preferences after the exam, unlike in previous years.

Candidates can register for 4 preferences.

The Department of Education and Training of Nghe An Province has just issued document No. 722/SGD&ĐT-QLCL dated March 20, 2026, providing guidance on student enrollment.10th gradeThe high school exam for the 2026-2027 school year includes several notable new features, particularly the fact that candidates can register for a maximum of four preferences when taking the exam.

A notable point in this year's admissions season is that each candidate can register for a maximum of 4 preferences (excluding preferences for specialized schools and ethnic boarding schools). Of these, candidates applying to public high schools can choose a maximum of 2 preferences; if they register for a 3rd and 4th preference, it must be for private schools, continuing education centers, or vocational education and continuing education centers. Thus, compared to previous years, candidates can register for one more preference.

Allowing students to register for up to four preferences is expected to create more suitable choices for them, while also helping to reduce pressure during the 10th grade entrance exam in the province.

Candidates will take the exam at the institution where they registered their first choice if that institution organizes the entrance exam.

The Department of Education and Training also noted that this year, candidates are not allowed to change their preferences after the registration period has ended.

According to the Department's plan, exam registration applications will be submitted online through the VNEDU system, along with necessary documents such as birth certificates, proof of priority (if any), etc. The registration period is from April 22nd to May 5th, 2026; after May 6th, 2026, the system will be locked and candidates will not be allowed to change their preferences.

The entrance exam for 10th grade in the 2026-2027 school year in Nghe An consists of three subjects: Literature, Mathematics, and Foreign Language. Literature and Mathematics exams are essay-based, with 120 minutes allotted for each subject; the Foreign Language exam is multiple-choice with 60 minutes.

The exam schedule is tentatively set for two days (May 25th and 26th, 2026). Specifically, the Literature exam will be held on the morning of May 25th, followed by the Foreign Language exam in the afternoon; the Mathematics exam will be held on the morning of May 26th.

The exam results are expected to be announced on June 4, 2026. Afterward, candidates can submit an appeal between June 4 and June 9, 2026.

Only eligible candidates are allowed to register for specialized schools.

Regarding the 10th grade entrance exam, according to the Department's guidelines, for the 2026-2027 school year, Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School will enroll 15 specialized classes, including 13 specialized classes in other subjects and 2 specialized classes in Mathematics. Applicants must participate in the general 10th grade entrance exam with 3 non-specialized subjects, plus one additional specialized subject exam with a 150-minute time limit. The scores for non-specialized subjects are weighted 1, while the specialized subject is weighted 3 for admission consideration.

Notably, in addition to their first choice of specialized classes, students applying to specialized classes in Literature, Chemistry, and English can also register for their second choice in other specialized classes such as History, Geography, Biology, Russian, French, Japanese, Korean, or Chinese.

The entrance exam for Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School is scheduled to be held on May 28th at Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School and Huynh Thuc Khang High School.

For ethnic boarding schools, including Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School and Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2, admissions are based on the results of the 10th grade entrance exam. These schools primarily recruit students from ethnic minority groups or those with household registration in areas classified as particularly disadvantaged.

For the upcoming school year, Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School will enroll 7 classes with 245 students, while Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2 will enroll 6 classes with 210 students. In addition, certain groups, such as students from very small ethnic minority groups or those who have won national or international awards, may be admitted directly according to regulations.

The entrance exam for 10th grade in the 2026-2027 school year will have the highest number of candidates ever, with approximately 57,000 9th-grade students participating.

To facilitate the registration process for candidates, the Department of Education is expected to announce the enrollment quotas for schools before April 22, 2026. Along with significant changes in the application method, this year the Department also plans to increase the number of second-choice applications to public schools, giving candidates a better chance of admission, especially those with scores close to the cutoff point.
