Nghe An: Over 200 reservoirs are full of water, ensuring irrigation for the summer-autumn crop.
Unlike previous years, when Nghe An province typically faced the problem of dry reservoirs due to prolonged heatwaves at this time, this year, thanks to the impact of heavy and prolonged rainfall from the beginning of May until now, hundreds of reservoirs in the area have filled with water.
This is a positive sign for agricultural production, but it also poses many challenges in dam management and ensuring dam safety during the rainy season and floods.

According to information from the Nghe An Irrigation Department, the province currently has 1,061 reservoirs of various sizes. During the recent rainfall, 278 reservoirs were full, including 24 managed by enterprises and 254 managed by local authorities. In addition, 485 reservoirs had water levels reaching 70% or more, mainly concentrated in the districts of Yen Thanh, Nghia Dan, Do Luong, Dien Chau, and Quynh Luu...
In Quynh Luu district, Mr. Nguyen Viet Thuong, Director of the Quynh Luu Irrigation Enterprise, said: The unit is currently managing 6 reservoirs, of which Khe Than reservoir (Quynh Tam commune), Quynh Luu district, is full with a capacity of 4 million m³, and the remaining reservoirs have reached 70% of their capacity. To ensure safety during the rainy season, the force is on duty 24/7, monitoring water levels and ready to operate spillway gates when necessary.

According to a representative from the Nghe An Irrigation Department, given the increasingly complex and unpredictable weather patterns, the unit has requested that localities and reservoir management units regularly update meteorological and hydrological forecasts to adjust operating plans accordingly. At the same time, close coordination with local authorities is necessary to fully implement the "four on-site" principle, managing and operating reservoirs according to technical procedures to ensure dam safety.

The goal is to ensure water storage and regulation for agricultural production and daily life, while also contributing to flood control and minimizing the risk of flooding in downstream areas.
However, it is concerning that some reservoirs in the area are still in a state of disrepair, posing a potential safety risk during the upcoming rainy season.
Therefore, inspecting, repairing, and upgrading irrigation works remains a priority task to ensure water supply for production while minimizing damage to downstream areas.
