Nghe An: More than 450 pesticide businesses operating illegally

(Baonghean.vn) - According to the statistics of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, currently in Nghe An there are 588 establishments trading and selling plant protection drugs, including133 facilitieshas been granted a certificate of eligibility to trade in this item and 70 applications are being processed for certification.

Accordingly, there are currently over 450 business establishments in the province that have not been granted certificates of eligibility to trade in plant protection drugs. To control the trading of plant protection drugs, every year, the Department of Crop Production - Plant Protection conducts inspections of trading establishments and drug trading companies in the province.

In 2015, the Department administratively fined 5 branches of companies trading in pesticides that did not ensure quality with the amount of 56 million VND. In the first six months of 2016, the Department administratively fined 8 million VND to establishments trading in pesticides in the province, violating the following errors: not having a certificate of eligibility to trade pesticides, trading pesticides not on the list, storing pesticides with other items...

According to an officer of the Legal Department - Provincial Plant Protection Department, during the production season, when crops are affected by many pests and diseases, many people, even without a certificate for trading in plant protection drugs, still secretly trade in this product to meet seasonal needs.

This situation makes it difficult for authorities to detect and handle. Meanwhile, some local authorities have not really paid attention to the management of pesticide trading. This is a worrying issue when many types of pesticides that do not ensure quality appear on the market.
