Nghe An: Two individuals charged with extorting money from rice harvesting machine operators.
(Baonghean.vn) - The modus operandi of these individuals was to approach owners of combine harvesters from other areas and then threaten and intimidate them. Many combine harvester owners, wanting to conduct their business peacefully, paid Cuong and Sy the amount demanded by the group, which was 2 million VND per machine.
On June 19th, the Thanh Chuong District Police initiated a criminal case and indicted Phan Van Sy (born in 1986, residing in Moi Hamlet, Thanh Nho Commune) and Nguyen Hung Cuong (born in 1975, residing in Hamlet 7, Cat Van Commune) for the crime of extortion.
Previously, the Thanh Chuong District Police continuously received numerous complaints from owners of rice harvesting machines about being threatened with weapons by a group of individuals in Thanh Nho commune and neighboring communes, demanding protection money and forcing them to harvest their crops and pay them.

During the investigation, the identities of the suspects were clarified, with Phan Văn Sỹ and Nguyễn Hùng Cường identified as the two ringleaders.

On June 4th, while Sy and Cuong were extorting protection money from the owner of a NHH machine in a field in Thanh Chuong district for 1.8 million VND, they were caught red-handed by the Thanh Chuong District Police.
At the police station, the two suspects admitted their actions and confessed that from the beginning of the rice harvest season until now, they had threatened and extorted money from dozens of combine harvester owners. If the owners refused, the two suspects would call their accomplices to threaten and beat them.
Currently, the Thanh Chuong District Police are finalizing procedures to prosecute the suspects according to the law.
