Nghe An province has brought the forest fire in Thien Nhan and Van An communes under control.
After much effort, by 4:00 AM on June 23rd, authorities had brought the forest fire in Thien Nhan and Van An communes under control by moving the fire further away and creating firebreaks.
At 4:00 AM this morning (June 23), in an interview with Nghe An Newspaper and Radio and Television, Mr. Vuong Hong Thai - Chairman of the People's Committee of Van An commune - said that the authorities have brought the forest fire on the mountain under control. "Currently, only a few small plumes of smoke remain, and local forces are monitoring them. Most importantly, all the firefighting forces and residents in the area are safe; there have been no unfortunate incidents involving casualties."
The fire broke out at noon on June 21, 2026, in plots 2 and 3, sub-area 1019A, in hamlet 2 of Thien Nhan commune. Following the large fire, various forces were mobilized to participate in firefighting efforts, including: the Nghe An Forest Protection Department; the four Forest Protection Units of Nam Dan - Hung Nguyen; Thanh Chuong; Do Luong, and Nghi Loc; Mobile Forest Protection and Firefighting Teams No. 01, 02, and 03; the People's Committee of Thien Nhan commune; the police and military of Van An and Thien Nhan communes; and Fire and Rescue Police Team No. 7 - Fire and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts to contain and extinguish the fire throughout the night of June 21st, on the morning of June 22nd, the People's Committee of Nghe An province mobilized additional forces from the Provincial Police, the 414th Engineering Brigade - Military Region 4, the 764th Regiment - Provincial Military Command, and the Provincial Border Guard.
Due to the prolonged hot weather, strong winds, and swirling currents, the fire was difficult to control. From noon on June 22nd, firefighting efforts were halted. Forces were mobilized to create firebreaks to prevent the forest fire from spreading to Van An commune.
The location of the firebreak at Khe Huong in Nam Loc hamlet, Van An commune, was identified as a point to contain and control the fire, but this proved unsuccessful.
Given the complex situation and the rapid spread of the fire, in a direct on-site inspection late in the afternoon of June 22, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De requested the implementation of a plan to move the firebreak 500m away from the fire, accepting the loss of some additional forest area to create a remote containment barrier.
At 11 PM on June 22nd, the forest fire was still raging. However, Mr. Vuong Hong Thai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Van An commune, said that the fire, which had reached the large construction site along the white firebreak, was basically under control and had not spread to neighboring areas. During the night, the fire fighting and rescue forces used fire trucks to spray water on some houses at the foot of the mountain to ensure the safety of the residents.
By 4 a.m., authorities had brought the forest fire under control and were extinguishing smaller fires to prevent them from reigniting.
