According to the task force of Road Traffic Police Team No. 5, during a patrol and inspection near the Vinh Airport intersection one afternoon at the end of August, from 12-13h, the force stopped over 10 vehicles, of which 3 were speeding violations.

Mr. N.D.H, a driver who committed a speeding violation, said: "While driving on National Highway 46 from Nam Dan towards Cua Lo town, near the airport intersection, I only realized I had been caught speeding when the traffic police signaled me to stop. To be honest, the road was clear, and partly because I was careless and there were few vehicles around at midday, I didn't pay attention."speed.

Meanwhile, Mr. NNT (residing in Dien Chau district) was caught speeding near the Quan Banh overpass. After being shown the footage by the task force, he admitted to the violation, saying: "When I was stopped for processing, after the initial surprise, I felt somewhat embarrassed. It was just 'because I was in a hurry,' and partly because I thought the road was empty at noon and there were no cameras in the area, so I sped beyond the limit."

In reality, it is precisely because of these subjective thoughts that many traffic accidents have occurred, including a significant number of serious ones. For example, a recent accident occurred at 4 PM on September 3rd on National Highway 48. At that time, a car with license plate 37A-391.70 was traveling at high speed on National Highway 48, heading from Quy Hop towards Dien Chau. Upon reaching Hung Lap hamlet, Nghia Tien commune, Thai Hoa town, it collided with a motorbike with license plate 37-G1 648.24 carrying two people traveling in the same direction. The accident resulted in the deaths of two people on the motorbike and serious injuries to five people in the car.

For example, the accident at 6:00 AM on August 29th in Ha Nam village, Dinh Son commune, Anh Son district. According to footage from a resident's roadside camera, at that time, a car with license plate 37A-862.81, traveling at high speed, crashed head-on into a motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction. The woman riding the motorcycle was thrown from her vehicle and died instantly, while the car overturned at the scene.

These are just two of many speed-related accidents that have occurred recently. According to official figures, over 90% of fatalities in traffic accidents are related to speeding violations. Yet, many vehicles still exceed the speed limit on the roads.

Nguyen Thi Huong, a resident living near the intersection of the 35m road and National Highway 46, said: "Not only do drivers speed recklessly on straight roads, but many also speed through intersections without traffic lights. Therefore, in addition to utilizing the automated traffic camera system on National Highway 1A, it is necessary to increase the number of traffic police on other roads to handle violations directly. Only then can we adjust the awareness of road users and contribute to reducing accidents."

Strengthen patrols and controls, and take strict action.

In just over two months (from June 20th to August 30th, 2022) of implementing the Ministry of Public Security's plan to inspect and handle traffic safety violations, the Traffic Police force of the Provincial Public Security Department detected and recorded over 11,000 violations, including 2,784 speeding violations. Notably, while previously speeding violations were mainly concentrated on national highways, they now occur on any road, especially during midday and nighttime hours. Most of these violations involve exceeding the speed limit by 10 to 20 km/h, with some exceptional cases exceeding the limit by over 40 km/h...

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Nam Hong, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police: In recent times, speeding violations by road users have been widespread, not only on national highways and urban roads but also on rural roads, especially when law enforcement is absent. This not only directly endangers the drivers themselves but also other road users. Many serious traffic accidents have occurred due to drivers failing to control their speed.

To promptly detect, prevent, and handle violations, contributing to curbing traffic accidents, in addition to utilizing the automated traffic camera system, the department will continue to direct teams and stations to strengthen patrol and control work, and organize undercover operations to record violations for processing. Regarding speeding violations, we are determined to strictly handle them, without overlooking any cases.

This is because driving at high speeds limits the ability to analyze and handle situations on the road.
