Nghe An province is planning to relocate nearly 150 households at risk of landslides in Ky Son district.
(Baonghean.vn) - In three villages in Muong Tip commune, Ky Son district, residential areas and schools are located next to streams, with cracked earthen mountains above, posing a high risk of landslides and causing significant damage if heavy rains and floods occur.

Given the complex developments of Typhoon No. 2, on the afternoon of July 3rd, Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Deputy Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, inspected and surveyed a high-risk landslide area in Ky Son district.
Also accompanying them were representatives from various sub-departments and leaders from Ky Son district.
In Muong Tip commune, the delegation conducted field visits to Vang Pao and Na Mi villages (Muong Tip commune) and Xop Phong village (Muong Ai commune), located about 60 km from Muong Xen town. These areas have residential areas and schools situated along streams, with cracked earthen mountains above, posing a high risk of landslides and significant damage if heavy rains and floods occur.

Specifically, according to a survey by Ky Son district, in Van Pao village (63 households), Na Mi village (58 households), and Xop Phong village (28 households), residents must evacuate during prolonged periods of rain to ensure their safety. Currently, the Ky Son District People's Committee has developed a plan for relocating and resettling these areas and submitted it to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, but due to the large cost (approximately 18 billion VND), it has not yet been implemented.

Based on discussions and on-site assessments, the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hoang Nghia Hieu, emphasized that these are newly emerging landslide areas with a large number of affected people and high costs. Therefore, he requested that Ky Son district urgently conduct thorough surveys, develop plans, and provide convincing justifications to submit to the central government in collaboration with the province.
During the trip, the delegation from the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also inspected the situation regarding the prevention and control of African swine fever in the communes of Chieu Luu, Ta Ca, and Muong Tip.

For the time being, to ensure the safety of the people, a proactive plan for relocation to a safe area is needed; while waiting for the resettlement project to be implemented, forces should be deployed to regularly warn the people...

To date, despite numerous efforts, African swine fever has appeared in 17 out of 21 communes and towns in Ky Son district; currently, the district has culled nearly 2,000 pigs out of a total herd of approximately 5,000.
