Nghe An: A woman was swept away by floodwaters while working in her fields.

(Baonghean.vn) - Eight hours after being swept away by floodwaters, local residents found the body of Mrs. Loi more than 1km from her family's home.

On the morning of July 18th, Mr. Vi Viet Kieu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Thai commune (Tuong Duong district), stated that the local authorities and the family are making arrangements for the funeral of Ms. Lu Thi Loi (born in 1951), residing in Khoi village of the aforementioned commune.

Earlier, at around 11:00 AM on July 17th, seeing the heavy rain, Mrs. Loi walked home from her farm, nearly 3km away, to clean up. However, while crossing a stream in Canh Trap village, the woman was suddenly swept away by the floodwaters.

By 4 PM that same day, when his wife hadn't returned home, suspecting something bad had happened, Mrs. Loi's husband notified the local residents and authorities to organize a search.

“The search teams and local people searched for nearly three hours but still couldn't find Ms. Loi. Around 7 PM, the water receded, and a group of women who were fishing discovered the victim's body,” Mr. Kieu said. It is known that Ms. Loi's body was found in Dooc Bua village, about 1km from Khoi village, where the victim's family lived.

Mr. Vi Van Kieu added that Typhoon No. 2 caused heavy rain, severely affecting the people in the commune. More than 15 hectares of rice fields were submerged in floodwaters, and many fish cages were swept away.

Several sections of National Highway 7 running through this area are experiencing localized flooding, causing traffic congestion. As of this morning, the Tam Thai Commune People's Committee headquarters is still submerged up to 40cm deep.
