Department of Education and TrainingA document has just been issued guiding districts, cities, and towns in the province to collect information and develop plans for the development of education (regarding the scale of the school network and classrooms) for the 2023-2024 school year. This will also serve as the basis for developing the school year plans of localities as well as allocating teachers, facilities, etc.

Based on statistical data, the Department will review the school year plans for localities, in order to prepare the necessary conditions for the new school year as well as the enrollment plans of schools.

Previously, although complete data was not yet available, according to educational statistics reports for the upcoming school year, the number of students in the province will continue to increase, especially at the lower secondary level.

Specifically, in the 2022-2023 school year, 46,647 ninth-grade students took the junior high school graduation exam, and 72,728 fifth-grade students took the primary school completion exam. Thus, the projected total number of junior high school students in the 2023-2024 school year is approximately 232,782, an increase of about 26,081 compared to the previous school year. Meanwhile, the number of high school students increased only slightly, and the number of primary school students did not increase significantly compared to previous school years.

The increase in the number of secondary school students this school year was anticipated. Statistics show that over the past five years, the number of primary school students has increased by approximately 64,000, averaging about 12,000 per year. However, the number of students increases fluctuates from year to year, with higher increases in years considered auspicious. Among the localities experiencing student increases, Vinh City, Quynh Luu, Dien Chau, and Yen Thanh are among those with the fastest growth, each with over 2,000 students. Vinh City alone is expected to see an increase of over 3,600 secondary school students.

The rapid increase in student numbers will put considerable pressure on localities, especially in ensuring adequate facilities and arranging teaching staff. Currently, with an increase of over 26,000 students, approximately 580 additional classes will be added next school year.

Given the projected increase in the number of junior high school students in the 2023-2024 school year in the province, the Department of Education and Training requests that all levels, sectors, and the entire society focus on rationally arranging the scale of schools and classrooms. Simultaneously, timely investment in supplementing facilities and equipment is necessary, along with plans to prepare a sufficient number and quality of teachers to ensure adequate classroom staffing and the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program and the task of building schools that meet national standards.
