Nghe An: Female veteran uses her own money to help the poor

(Baonghean.vn) - After 10 years of fierce war, returning to peacetime, the female veteran continued to tirelessly contribute to social activities. With a sincere heart, she spread good things and good deeds for the common development of the community.

Ms. Le Thi Duyen received a Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association for studying and following Uncle Ho.

That is Ms. Le Thi Duyen, (70 years old), Head of the Association of War Veterans in Khe Bai hamlet, Nghia Hoi commune, Nghia Dan, Nghe An. The old female veteran is the pioneer in propaganda work, mobilizing members to participate in building new rural areas. Through that, 40 members of the Association of War Veterans in Khe Bai donated land with more than 500m², contributing thousands of working days.

With the initiative of the Branch President, each member of the Khe Bai Village Veterans Association plants at least 2 trees every year to protect the environment, raises 1 chicken to get money from selling eggs and chicks to fund the association; each wealthy member supports 1 bench at the village's cultural house and public places. Currently, there are 18 stone benches serving the people.

Ms. Duyen is also a pioneer in contributing to the movement and public works in the locality. Every day, the old veteran saves 2,000 VND; in addition, along with the allowance of more than 300,000 VND/month, all are contributed to the association's operating fund. When the village repaired the volleyball court, Ms. Duyen supported a set of balls, a net and a high-pressure ball that lights up at night to encourage local people to practice physical exercise and sports.

Ms. Le Thi Duyen introduced the cultural house's welcome gate under the chairmanship and contribution of the Khe Bai War Veterans Association.

Not only being active in movement activities, the old war veteran is also known as a person with a kind heart, wholeheartedly sharing with comrades and families in difficult circumstances. Over the years, she has lent 10 member households in difficult circumstances money with no term, no interest, for an amount of more than 100 million VND.

Comrade Tran Van Dong - Vice Chairman of the Association of War Veterans of Nghia Dan district said: Although she is a woman, Comrade Duyen is a core cadre in the association's activities; especially very prestigious and exemplary, so she is loved by members and people.
