(Baonghean.vn) - After enduring 10 years of fierce war, upon returning to peacetime, this female veteran continued to tirelessly dedicate herself to social activities. With her sincere heart, she has spread good deeds and positive values ​​for the common development of the community.

Ms. Le Thi Duyen received a Certificate of Commendation from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association for studying and following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings.

That is Ms. Le Thi Duyen, (70 years old), Head of the Veterans Association branch in Khe Bai hamlet, Nghia Hoi commune, Nghia Dan district, Nghe An province. This elderly female veteran is a pioneer in propagating and mobilizing members to participate in building new rural areas. As a result, 40 veteran members in Khe Bai have donated land totaling over 500 square meters.2, contributing thousands of man-days of labor.

With the initiative of the Branch Chairman, each veteran in Khe Bai hamlet annually plants at least two trees to protect the environment, raises one chicken to sell eggs and chicks for the association's fund; and each well-off member donates one stone bench to the community center and public spaces in the hamlet. Currently, there are 18 stone benches serving the local people.

Ms. Duyen is also a leading contributor to local community movements and public works projects. Every day, the elderly veteran puts 2,000 dong into her savings; in addition, along with her monthly allowance of over 300,000 dong, all of it is contributed to the association's operating fund. When the village renovated the volleyball court, Ms. Duyen provided a set of balls, nets, and high-pressure lamps for nighttime lighting to encourage local people to practice sports and exercise.

Not only is she active in community activities, but this elderly veteran is also known for her compassionate heart and willingness to share with her comrades and struggling families. Over the years, she has lent money to 10 needy veteran families without interest, totaling over 100 million VND.

Comrade Tran Van Dong – Vice Chairman of the Veterans Association of Nghia Dan district – remarked admiringly: Although a woman, Comrade Duyen is a key figure in the association's activities; she is especially reputable and exemplary, and therefore loved by the members and the people.

For her contributions, veteran Le Thi Duyen was awarded by the provincial and district veterans' associations as an exemplary veteran for five years (2009-2014); she was also recognized as an advanced model in Nghia Dan district during the 2010-2015 period, representing veterans in the district at the Provincial Veterans' Patriotic Emulation Congress. She was the only representative from Nghe An province to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Central Veterans' Association for outstanding achievements in studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh during the 2011-2015 period.
