Nghe An: Launching National Action Month on Population 2021

On the morning of November 25, at Nguyen Canh Chan High School (Thanh Chuong), the Steering Committee for Population and Development in coordination with the Thanh Chuong District Population Steering Committee organized the Launching Ceremony of the National Action Month on Population towards the 60th anniversary of Vietnam Population Day (November 26, 1961 - November 26, 2021).

National Action Month on Population2021 is implemented from December 1 - December 31, 2021with the theme "60 years of the Population sector - For a sustainable development of Vietnam". Through that, to further promote communication, mobilization and promote the role and responsibility of Party committees at all levels, authorities, departments, branches, unions, social organizations, and people of all walks of life in Population and Development work in the new situation, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the country and the province.

Over the past 60 years, the Party and State of Vietnam have identified population as the root of all problems, an important foundation for sustainable national and ethnic development.

In Nghe An, in recent times, under the direction and leadership of the Steering Committee for Population and Development, the active participation of the entire political system, the dedication and responsibility of the population work team at all levels, Nghe An's population work has achieved remarkable results. The population growth rate has been basically controlled, the population quality has been improved. The 2-child family model has become the norm, spreading and permeating throughout society.

These important results have significantly contributed to the socio-economic development achievements of the province and are evidence of the deep understanding of the content of Resolution 21 of the Party Central Committee on population work in the new situation for the quality of people's lives, for the comprehensive development of society in general and Nghe An in particular.

However, besides the above results, currently, population work in our province still faces many difficulties and challenges when Nghe An is currently a province withpopulation sizelarge (ranked 4th in the country) and has a high birth rate (ranked in the top 7 provinces with the highest birth rate in the country), the birth rate of the third child or more tends to increase again. Gender imbalance at birth and population aging are at an alarming level. Population quality is not commensurate with the province's potential.

In particular, the issues of health care for the elderly, reproductive health of adolescents and young people, and health care for mothers and children still face many difficulties and challenges.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, comrade Nguyen Huu Le - Deputy Director of the Department of Health said that in order to effectively solve the challenges of Nghe An's population, all levels and sectors need to continue to proactively and actively implement Resolution No. 21 effectively with a drastic spirit, through synchronous solutions to achieve the goals and tasks set for the province's Population and Development work.

On behalf of the Provincial Steering Committee for Population and Development, comrade Nguyen Huu Le also requested that in the coming time, departments, branches and localities need toInnovate and improve the effectiveness of propaganda and education work to implement the campaign "Each couple should have 2 children", ensuring the rights and responsibilities in giving birth and raising children well. Promote the self-awareness, voluntariness and mutual supervision of the community; promote the exemplary role of each cadre and party member in association with building a cultural family, village, hamlet and unit.

Simultaneously,Effectively implement intervention solutions to improve population quality; proactively adjust population growth rate, and control the increase in sex ratio at birth. ContinueImprove the quality of logistics assurance for reproductive health care/family planning services, aiming to fully, promptly, safely and conveniently provide quality services to users.

At the launching ceremony, the Steering Committee for Population and Development presented gifts to 15 poor students who overcame difficulties to study well in Thanh Chuong district.
