Nghe An launches Humanitarian Month 2026
On April 29th, in Tuong Duong commune, Nghe An province organized the launching ceremony for the 2026 Humanitarian Month using a hybrid format, connecting with the Central Red Cross Society and other provinces and cities.
The National Humanitarian Month launch ceremony was held at the main venue in Hanoi, connecting with venues in Nghe An, An Giang, and Tuyen Quang.
Attending from the Hanoi location were: Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai - Member of the Political Bureau, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Director General of Vietnam Television; Lieutenant General Truong Thien To - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Deputy Head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army; along with representatives from ministries and agencies; international organizations; and ambassadors from countries such as the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Cuba, the Philippines, and South Africa.

At the Nghe An location, the attendees included: Le Van Luong – Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tuong Duong Commune; Phan Sy Cuong - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province; Nguyen Luong Hong - Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, along with representatives from various departments, agencies, and a large number of people.

In her opening remarks, Comrade Bui Thi Minh Hoai emphasized the orientations for modernizing humanitarian work in conjunction with the social security system; promoting digital transformation and innovating methods of resource mobilization to build a transparent and sustainable ecosystem.

At the same time, we call for the joint efforts of all levels of government, businesses, and the people to spread the spirit of sharing in the community with the goal of building a compassionate society where human values become a solid foundation for progress and civilization.
At the launch ceremony in Hanoi, organizations and businesses pledged over 350 billion VND for humanitarian activities. At other locations, through the Red Cross Societies of 34 provinces and cities, organizations, individuals, and businesses pledged over 300 billion VND for humanitarian activities.

Within the framework of the program, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society implemented a pilot model in Luu Phong village, Tuong Duong commune, with a total budget of over 1.3 billion VND, comprising three main activities: providing scholarships for underprivileged students; supporting sustainable livelihoods for poor households; and supporting the construction of Red Cross houses for families in particularly difficult circumstances.
Specifically, the Vietnam Red Cross Society awarded 56 scholarships to underprivileged students, totaling 280 million VND. They also provided livelihood support to 65 poor households affected by natural disasters in 2025, with each household receiving 12 million VND; and provided first aid equipment worth over 120 million VND to schools in disaster-affected areas. The Vietnam Cooperative Alliance also donated a Red Cross house worth 70 million VND to a needy household.

After the ceremony, the delegates went to Luu Phong village to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of houses for the local people.

The Humanitarian Month is implemented annually in May, leading up to International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8th) and the 12th National Congress of the Vietnam Red Cross Society. It also commemorates the 136th anniversary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh – the founder and first honorary president of the Society.
In 2026, the program, themed "80 Years - A Journey of Compassion for the Community," aims to raise at least 500 billion VND to support sustainable livelihoods for 17,000 poor households.


According to the Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee, after 5 years of implementation (2021-2025), the Humanitarian Month has mobilized over 3,182 billion VND, supporting more than 6.6 million people in difficult circumstances nationwide.
