Nghe An: Launching a campaign to plant 17,000 hectares of forest in 2017.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 2nd, the 6th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Rooster 2017, the People's Committee of Nghe An province organized the launching ceremony of the "Tree Planting Festival in Eternal Gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh".

Attending the ceremony were: Comrade Nguyen Dac Vinh - Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Nghe An province; Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Thai Thanh Quy - Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Chief of the Provincial Party Committee Office, along with comrades in the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, representatives of leaders of departments and agencies, and a large number of people and the government of Nghi Loc district.

Provincial leaders attended the tree planting ceremony for the Spring of Dinh Dau 2017.

This year's tree planting ceremony was held at the Nghi Thiet Cement Grinding Plant and Seaport complex (Nghi Loc district) belonging to Song Lam Cement Joint Stock Company, demonstrating Nghe An province's partnership with businesses in promoting economic development while protecting the ecological environment.

At the ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong emphasized the important role of local people and businesses in implementing solutions to protect the ecological environment, among which tree planting and reforestation is one of the most effective solutions.

In Nghe An province, the annual Tree Planting Festival is maintained with the active participation of all levels, sectors, armed forces, and people of all ethnic groups in the province. Thanks to this, in recent years, the movement to plant trees, reforest, and protect forests in Nghe An province has achieved many important results.

Natural forests throughout the province are well managed and protected, with a rapid increase in the area, productivity, and quality of planted forests. The forest cover in Nghe An province has recovered quickly and has now reached 57.2%, making a significant contribution to protecting the ecological environment, water resources, preserving genetic resources and biodiversity of forests, promoting protective functions, and mitigating damage caused by natural disasters.

Forestry is also an important economic sector, with export revenue from timber and non-timber forest products estimated at approximately 2,500 billion VND per year, accounting for a significant proportion of the province's total merchandise exports.

A large number of officials, armed forces personnel, and people of Nghi Loc district participated in the tree planting ceremony.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized the role of planting, caring for, and protecting forests in the context of strong climate change.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also assigned specific tasks to departments, localities, and businesses to strengthen forest planting and protection, and to actively promote the effectiveness of forests, especially in the current context of climate change and environmental pollution.

Representatives of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province also called on all people in localities throughout the province to actively participate in planting, protecting, and caring for forests, creating a green belt to protect the ecological environment and safeguard the lives of humanity in general.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, called on all people of Nghe An province to actively participate in reforestation.

Mr. Dinh Quoc Quyen, General Director of Song Lam Cement Joint Stock Company, on behalf of the company, pledged to plant tens of thousands of trees inside and outside the production area to contribute to environmental protection.

On behalf of Song Lam Nghe An Cement Joint Stock Company, Mr. Dinh Quoc Quyen – General Director of the company – stated: The fact that Nghe An province chose this location for the tree planting festival is a great encouragement for our company as we aim to develop this complex into a vibrant economic zone with a green space system that ensures environmental harmony.

The company is also committed to planting more trees and implementing environmental protection measures in and around the production area.

Comrade Nguyen Dac Vinh, along with provincial leaders and representatives from various departments, planted dozens of trees in the area around the Nghi Thiet Cement Grinding Plant and Seaport.

Along with the launching ceremony of the Provincial People's Committee, in many localities, Party committees and authorities at all levels also launched campaigns for the people to "plant trees and create forests," contributing together with sectors and businesses in Nghe An province to plant 17,000 hectares of forest in 2017.
