At the end of November, the media session aboutimprove population qualityfor the people in Nghi Thinh commune (Nghi Loc) started with a meaningful event. That is, after many years of efforts, the cadres and people of the commune received a Certificate of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in reducing the birth rate of the third child or more by at least 50%.

Sharing more about the results achieved, Ms. Vo Thanh Tien - a population officer of Nghi Thinh commune said: Reducing the third child birth rate is one of the first solutions, creating a premise for other goals such as reducing the gender imbalance rate at birth, implementing well the contents of reproductive health care/family planning, maintaining the replacement birth rate; contributing to gradually stabilizing the population size, consolidating and promoting the model of small, prosperous, equal, progressive, happy and sustainable development families, improving the quality of the population.

2024 is a difficult year for the Nghe An Population sector in particular when there are many changes in the implementation of activities. However, with many efforts, programs and activities are still being implemented on schedule with many different subjects.

In particular, with the target of youth and adolescents, the industry has organized many communication sessions on reproductive health care, organized the contest "Ring the Golden Bell", the contest "Be a girl to shine". With practical, close and lively content, the programs received the response of many students, union members and youth. This is also a channel for them to share their concerns and problems, thereby having the first foundations on reproductive health care, changes in the quality and psychology of school age.

Communication sessions on improving population quality, prenatal and newborn screening are aimed at women of childbearing age and women in rural and mountainous districts. By participating in these programs, women are provided with information on the importance and significance of prenatal and newborn screening, the golden times for screening fetuses and newborns with the aim of giving birth to and raising children who develop physically and mentally.

Communication sessions for the elderly are organized in the form of a contest "Elderly people live happily and healthily". This is truly a meaningful playground, helping the elderly promote the spirit of "old age, bright example" and equip themselves with more knowledge about health care to contribute to improving population quality.

Solutions to improve population quality

"Improving population quality for rapid and sustainable national development" is the common goal of the Vietnam Population Strategy to 2030 approved by the Prime Minister.

In Nghe An, in recent times, population work has always received attention from the province to the grassroots level and has the participation of all levels and sectors. Thanks to that, communication and mobilization work continues to be maintained, promoted and innovated through many contents and forms suitable for the target and region, contributing to raising awareness and changing people's behavior in complying with population policy - family planning.

In addition, the basic reproductive health care/family planning service system at all levels is provided fully and promptly in a way that is close to the people, convenient and safe for the people. Through the program of coordination with departments and branches, the implementation of population work is widely deployed to many subjects such as women, youth, students, the elderly, and workers in industrial zones.

However, besides the achieved results, Nghe An's population work is facing many difficulties and challenges when it is simultaneously carrying out two tasks, which are implementing population and family planning work and improving population quality.

Meanwhile, Nghe An is still a province with a large population (ranked 4th in the country) and a high birth rate (ranked in the top 10 provinces with the highest birth rate in the country), the birth rate of the third child or more is still high. Gender imbalance at birth and population aging are at an alarming level. Population quality is not commensurate with the province's potential. In particular, reproductive health care before marriage, adolescents, and youth; health care for the elderly, mothers and children still face many difficulties; children born with malnutrition, stunted growth, and congenital malformations still have many issues that need attention.

From the above reality, Mr. Hoang Dinh Tung - Head of the Population Department said: We must be more aware of the importance of doing well the current population work. In particular, it is necessary to continue to proactively and actively implement effectively Resolution No. 21, the spirit of the 13th Congress of the Central Executive Committee of the Party on population work and the Vietnam Population Strategy to 2030 of the Prime Minister to achieve the set goals and tasks for population and development work.

In particular, it is necessary to effectively implement intervention solutions to improve population quality; proactively adjust the population growth rate, restrain the increase in the sex ratio at birth; propose solutions to promote the advantages of the "golden population" structure and respond to "population aging".

In addition, it is necessary to strengthen harmonious and effective coordination between family, school and society in disseminating and educating knowledge on pre-marital health care, reproductive health of adolescents and young people for the future quality of the race.
