Nghe An province is coordinating the implementation of the task of searching for and collecting the remains of martyrs in Laos during the 2026-2027 dry season.

On the afternoon of May 19th, the Special Task Force of Nghe An province coordinated a conference to evaluate the results of the task of searching for and collecting the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in the three provinces of Laos during the 2025-2026 dry season. The conference also outlined the tasks for searching for and collecting the remains of martyrs during the 2026-2027 dry season.

Attending the conference, on behalf of the neighboring provinces were the Heads of the Special Task Force: Si Vieng Xay o La Bun - Vice Chairman of the Government Committee of Vientiane Province; Hong Kham Phim Ma Xan - Vice Chairman of the Government Committee of Xieng Khouang Province; Major General Mon Kham Duong Sa Van - Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, Deputy Head of the Special Task Force of Xay Som Bun Province, along with other members of the delegation.

Representing Nghe An province were: Major General Vu Van Tung - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Commander of the Provincial Military Command; Phung Thanh Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Special Task Force, along with representatives from various departments and agencies.

During the recent dry season, the Provincial Military Command's Repatriation Team organized the search, excavation, and repatriation of 80 remains of fallen soldiers, achieving 100% of the planned target. Specifically, 71 remains were recovered in Xieng Khouang province; 8 remains in Xaysomboun province; and 1 remains in Vientiane province.

In addition to their professional duties, the Search and Recovery Team has done a good job in civilian outreach with the motto "4 together". The soldiers have contributed nearly 1,000 man-days to helping people harvest crops, providing medical examinations and medicine to over 850 people, and donating gifts worth over 490 million VND to the people of Laos. These actions have deeply strengthened the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Phung Thanh Vinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province and Head of the Special Task Force of Nghe An province, respectfully thanked the Party committees, authorities, armed forces, and people of the provinces of Laos for their assistance in the search for the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in the area in the past. Nghe An province hopes that the Party committees, authorities, armed forces, and people of the provinces of Laos will continue to provide support and create favorable conditions in all aspects for the Nghe An Provincial Search and Recovery Team to successfully carry out its mission.

In the coming period, the task of searching for and collecting the remains of fallen soldiers will face more difficulties, hardships, and challenges. However, with the great tradition of solidarity, comprehensive cooperation between provinces with a high sense of responsibility, experience gained over the past time, and the sincere and heartfelt assistance of localities, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province believes that the work of searching for and excavating the remains of fallen soldiers in the three provinces of Laos during the 2026-2027 dry season will continue to successfully complete the assigned task.

At the conference, the Special Task Force of Nghe An province and the provinces of Xieng Khouang, Vientiane, and Xaysomboun signed an agreement to coordinate the search and repatriation of the remains of fallen soldiers during the 2026-2027 dry season.

According to the coordinated plan, from October 2026 to May 2027, the Remains Collection Team will continue its mission in Laos, aiming to further survey and collect the remains of fallen soldiers according to the targets assigned by Military Region 4. The handover and repatriation of the remains are expected to take place in mid-May 2027.

Also on the afternoon of May 19th, the Steering Committee for the Search, Collection, and Identification of the Remains of Martyrs in Nghe An Province held a ceremony to welcome the Collection Team of the Provincial Military Command, which is tasked with searching for and collecting the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos during the 2025-2026 dry season, back to Vietnam.
