Nghe An province will call up 2,900 young men to join the army.
(Baonghean.vn) - According to targets set by the Government, the Ministry of National Defense, and Military Region 4, Nghe An province will select and recruit 2,900 young men to join the army in 2016.
On November 24th, the Provincial Military Service Council held a conference to evaluate and summarize the 2015 military recruitment work and to implement the 2016 military recruitment tasks.
Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial Military Service Council, presided over the meeting.

At the conference, Colonel Ha Tan Tien, Standing Committee member of the Provincial Party Committee, Commander of the Provincial Military Command, and Vice Chairman of the Provincial Military Service Council, reported on the results of the selection and recruitment of citizens for military service in 2015.
This year, Nghe An province successfully completed all recruitment targets assigned by higher authorities. 2,700 young men enlisted, achieving 100% of the planned target. The number of young men with university or college degrees reached 8%; the province exceeded the target set by the Ministry of National Defense by selecting 220 young men with a height of 1.70m or taller for training and participation in parades and marches.

This year, 587 out of 3,760 students in the province passed the entrance exams to military officer schools (achieving a rate of 16%, ranking among the top in the country); the districts, towns, and cities in the province organized welcoming ceremonies for 2,452 soldiers who completed their military service and returned to their localities…
Concluding the conference, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong commended the achievements, pointed out shortcomings and weaknesses that need to be overcome, and at the same time, instructed, implemented, and assigned tasks for the 2016 military recruitment work.
The comrade emphasized that all levels and sectors should focus on implementing the new Military Service Law passed by the 13th National Assembly at its 9th session on June 19, 2015, which came into effect on January 1, 2016, with many new points such as: only one recruitment drive per year nationwide; the term of service in peacetime for non-commissioned officers and soldiers is 24 months (previously 18 months); the age for conscription of young people who have graduated from university or college has been raised to 27 years old (previously 25 years old).
The Government, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Military Region are expected to assign Nghe An province the task of selecting and enlisting 2,900 young men into the military in 2016.
