Nghe An will call 2,900 young men to join the army

(Baonghean.vn)- According to the targets of the Government, the Ministry of National Defense and Military Region 4, in 2016, Nghe An will select and call 2,900 young men to join the army.

On November 24, the Provincial Military Service Council held a conference to evaluate and summarize the military recruitment work in 2015 and deploy the military recruitment tasks in 2016.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Military Service Council chaired the conference.

At the conference, Colonel Ha Tan Tien, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Commander of the Provincial Military Command, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Military Service Council reported the results of selection and calling citizens to join the army in 2015.

During the year, Nghe An province successfully completed the contents and military recruitment targets assigned by superiors. There were 2,700 young people joining the army, reaching 100% of the plan. The number of young people with university and college degrees reached 8%; the province exceeded the target assigned by the Ministry of National Defense to select 220 young people with a height of 1m70 or more for training and serving in parades and marches.

In the year, 587/3,760 students in the province passed the entrance exams to military officer schools (reaching a rate of 16%, among the top in the country); districts, towns and cities in the province organized to welcome 2,452 soldiers who completed their military service and returned to their localities...

Concluding the conference, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong praised the achievements, pointed out the limitations and weaknesses that need to be overcome, and at the same time thoroughly grasped, deployed, and assigned tasks for military recruitment in 2016.

He emphasized that all levels and sectors should focus on implementing the new Law on Military Service passed by the 13th National Assembly at its 9th session on June 19, 2015, effective from January 1, 2016, with many new points such as: The whole country only transfers and receives military personnel once a year; the term of service in peacetime for non-commissioned officers and soldiers is 24 months (previously 18 months); the age of enlistment for young people who have graduated from university or college is raised to 27 years old (previously 25 years old).

It is expected that the Government, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Military Region will assign Nghe An province to select and call 2,900 young men to join the army in 2016.
