Nghe An accelerates the transition to E10 bioethanol fuel.
Following the government's directive on energy transition, Nghe An province is urgently deploying the supply of E10 bioethanol throughout the province. Thanks to the proactive efforts of businesses in preparing infrastructure and supply sources, as well as extensive public awareness campaigns, the transition is progressing smoothly, gradually fostering a habit of using clean fuel among the people, aiming for completion before June 1, 2026.
E10 gasoline is gradually becoming a familiar choice.
According to observations by reporters in early May, at many gas stations in Thanh Vinh, Truong Vinh, Vinh Phu, Vinh Loc wards and some other localities in the province, signs announcing the sale of E10 bioethanol fuel have been displayed in easily visible locations. The buying and selling atmosphere is bustling, with a stable flow of vehicles entering and leaving.
Surveys show that many gas stations have completely switched to selling E10 gasoline, while some still sell both RON95 and E10 to give people more time to get used to the new fuel. Representatives from some stores said that the reason for not completely switching is mainly because they are in the process of using up existing gasoline inventory, and also completing some final technical steps related to the storage tank and fuel blending systems.
At gas station number 07 in Truong Vinh ward, dozens of motorbikes and cars stopped by to refuel in less than 30 minutes. Staff there said that the number of customers choosing E10 fuel is increasing significantly compared to the early days of its implementation.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, residing in Thanh Vinh ward, had just finished filling up his car's tank and openly shared his experience using E10 gasoline. “When I first heard about it, I was hesitant because I wasn't familiar with the concept of biofuel. But after the staff explained it in detail, and because the price was about 1,000 VND lower per liter than RON95 gasoline, I decided to try it during my last refueling at the end of April. I felt the car ran completely normally, the engine was still smooth, and there was no difference in acceleration,” Mr. Nam said.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Tran Thi Huong, residing in Vinh Phu ward, said that she chose E10 gasoline not only for economic reasons but also because of her environmental awareness. “Recently, I’ve seen many media outlets promoting the benefits of biofuel, especially its ability to reduce harmful emissions. I think that if this type of gasoline ensures good vehicle performance while also contributing to environmental protection, then people should support it,” Ms. Huong expressed.
According to gasoline and diesel fuel businesses, E10 gasoline is suitable for most cars and motorcycles currently in circulation, especially those manufactured within the last 10 years or so. For older models, consumers can refer to the manufacturer's recommendations, but generally, this fuel meets the technical standards for most vehicles on the market.
Nghe An province currently has over 600 gasoline and diesel retail outlets. Petrolimex Nghe An plays a leading role in fuel supply. Since April 20th, the company has begun selling E10 gasoline at many of its affiliated stores. By May 6th, over 50% of the company's stores had started selling this product, aiming to cover the entire system before May 25th.
Mr. Cao Viet Dong, Head of Sales Department of Petrolimex Nghe An Co., Ltd., said that the company had made thorough preparations months in advance to ensure a smooth transition process.
“We have completed the synchronization of the entire system of storage tanks, blending equipment, quality control, and staff training at our gas stations. By May 25th, all gas stations under the company's management will only sell E10 gasoline. This is a major policy of the Government, which has both economic significance and contributes to environmental protection, so we determined that we must implement it early, systematically, and correctly. Based on sales experience, customer feedback has been very positive, which is a very encouraging sign,” Mr. Dong emphasized.
According to Mr. Dong, the transition is not simply a change in business lines, but a significant shift in energy consumption habits, requiring close coordination between businesses, regulatory agencies, and the public.
Implement the roadmap decisively and complete the transformation before June 1st.
To promote the transition, Nghe An province has issued many specific directives in recent times. On April 23, 2026, the Provincial People's Committee issued Document No. 4359/UBND-KT to implement Directive No. 09/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on promoting the use of biofuels. Subsequently, on April 28, the Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade issued Document No. 1517/SCT-QLTM requesting gasoline and oil businesses to urgently complete technical infrastructure, proactively secure supply sources, and strengthen communication efforts.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hiep, Head of the Trade Management Department of the Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade, said that the implementation progress is currently positive. “Through review, gasoline and oil businesses in the area have basically completed the conditions regarding technical infrastructure, blending, storage, and quality control systems. The transition started in late April, accelerated in May, and aims to be completed before June 1, 2026, as planned. The good news is that the market is stable, the supply is guaranteed, and there have been no interruptions or disruptions. People are also increasingly proactive in accessing and positively embracing the transition,” Mr. Hiep said.
According to Mr. Hiep, besides ensuring technical standards and supply, public awareness campaigns play a crucial role. The Department is coordinating with media agencies, local authorities, and businesses to provide comprehensive and objective information about E10 gasoline, helping people understand it correctly and avoid any apprehension.
Expanding the use of biofuels is also seen as an important solution to diversify energy sources, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and promote the development of the domestic renewable fuel industry.
With decisive leadership from the province, proactive efforts from businesses, and increasing consensus from the people, Nghe An is gradually realizing its goal of transitioning to E10 gasoline on schedule. This is not just a change in fuel type; it's also a practical step in building a green economy, achieving sustainable development, and improving the quality of life for the community.
E10 gasoline is a mixture of 90% mineral gasoline and 10% fuel ethanol. Compared to traditional gasoline, this fuel reduces harmful emissions, limits environmental pollution, increases octane rating, supports more complete combustion, and helps protect the engine.
