On the morning of May 20th, the Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor organized a workshop to gather feedback on two draft strategic plans: Focusing on representing and protecting the rights and improving the quality of life of union members, and Promoting the development of union membership and the establishment of grassroots trade unions in the period 2026-2030.

Attending the workshop were Comrade Kha Van Tam – Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province, Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor; representatives from the Department of Internal Affairs, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Provincial Social Insurance, the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board, and representatives from many grassroots trade unions and businesses in the area.

At the workshop, delegates analyzed the new challenges in the context of Nghe An's strong attraction of FDI and large-scale enterprises. This development has led to a rapid increase in the workforce. It is projected that by 2026, the province's recruitment demand could exceed 90,000 workers.

Currently, the province has over 350,000 workers employed in more than 15,500 businesses. However, as of March 2026, there are still approximately 482 domestic businesses in the province with nearly 36,000 workers that do not have a trade union. This leaves workers without a representative channel to express their concerns and aspirations, and also poses a potential risk of labor disputes and collective work stoppages.

In addition, delegates also pointed out the pressures on essential infrastructure such as the shortage of housing for workers and cultural facilities serving the spiritual life in industrial zones.

Aiming for 2030, Nghe An province strives to reach 200,000-210,000 union members, ensuring that over 85% of workers in enterprises participate in trade unions. To achieve this number, the workshop unanimously agreed on the need for strong innovation in operational methods, focusing on the practical interests of workers to increase the attractiveness of trade unions in the era of integration. These efforts not only aim to improve living standards but also affirm the role of trade unions as a solid support for workers in the locality.

Speaking at the workshop, Comrade Kha Van Tam stated clearly: The two projects were developed to concretize the key contents of the provincial trade union congress resolution and the action program for the new term. These two projects are considered the "backbone" and are of "vital" importance to the activities of the trade union organization in the current period.

The overarching goal of both projects is to raise awareness among trade union officials about the importance of these tasks, while simultaneously promoting the application of technology and digital transformation in membership management and trade union activities.

The Chairman of the Provincial Labor Union also suggested that all levels of trade unions should shift from merely giving gifts to caring for and protecting union members and workers in a formalistic way, to more creative, practical, and in-depth approaches; focusing strongly on the function of representing and protecting workers when their rights are violated, thereby affirming the position of the trade union organization.

Trade union levels also need to focus on reviewing and thoroughly understanding data on workers and businesses in their areas to encourage the establishment of grassroots trade unions, especially in small and medium-sized enterprises. Trade union officials must be persistent in their propaganda and mobilization efforts and coordinate with Party committees and authorities at all levels to develop the organization.
