Nghe An: 21 working groups established to direct efforts to mitigate the consequences of Typhoon No. 2.

(Baonghean.vn) - Typhoon No. 2 (Talas) has made landfall in Nghe An province with strong gusts of wind lasting for many hours. Initial damage to people and property has been reported in most districts and towns across the province.

At 1:00 AM on July 17th, Typhoon No. 2 made landfall in Nghe An province, with the strongest winds near the center of the storm reaching level 8 (60-75 km/h), gusting to levels 9-10.

In Vinh City, the storm raged for three hours straight, causing widespread power outages. Many trees were uprooted by the wind, blocking roads and causing traffic congestion. By 4 a.m. that same day, the storm began to weaken. According to initial statistics, Nghe An province suffered losses of life and property.

In Hoang Mai town, one person died due to a house wall collapsing, one fishing boat sank, and 100 corrugated iron roofs were blown off. In Cua Lo town, at around 2:00 AM on July 17th, while anchored north of Ngu Island in Cua Lo town, a ship with the registration number VTP 26 carrying coal from Quang Ninh to Cua Lo port, along with 13 crew members and the cargo owner, was sunk by rough seas. Currently, the port authority is coordinating with the border guard, navy, and local authorities to organize search and rescue operations for the crew members and the aforementioned ship.

In Hung Nguyen district, strong winds destroyed two boats on the Lam River, and knocked down a welcome arch in Hung Thinh commune, causing traffic congestion on National Highway 1A (Vinh bypass)... Other localities in the province also experienced broken power poles and uprooted ancient trees, causing traffic jams.

To proactively prepare for Typhoon No. 2, the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue has deployed 21 teams to inspect and direct disaster prevention plans in 21 localities throughout the province. In addition, the Provincial Party Committee has established one team, the Provincial People's Committee has established one team, and the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has established three teams to conduct inspections and provide guidance.

Specifically for the Nghe An Provincial Police force, starting from the afternoon of July 16th, the provincial police leadership held a meeting to deploy forces, carry out tasks, and develop prevention and response plans. The provincial police leadership instructed the police in Quynh Luu, Dien Chau, Nghi Loc districts and Cua Lo town to proactively advise on plans to relocate coastal households to safe areas to avoid rising water levels and storm surges when the typhoon makes landfall; coordinate with relevant agencies to urge boats and ships to return to safe shelters; and proactively inform them to take precautions, anchor in safe locations, and avoid entering dangerous areas.

The Nghe An Provincial Police also deployed hundreds of officers and soldiers directly to vulnerable areas to help people overcome the consequences of the storm and floods, maintaining a 100% on-call system to respond promptly when needed. At the same time, they focused on plans to ensure the safety of dams and reservoirs in the area, as the post-storm circulation will cause widespread rain.
