On August 2nd, Mr. Tran Duc Loi, Vice Chairman of the Quy Hop District People's Committee, stated that the district had requested the North Central Geological Survey Federation to report on the subsidence incident in Chau Hong commune after hearing the results of their more than two-month survey and investigation into the cause. The North Central Geological Survey Federation reported that they had identified six causes leading to the subsidence, cracking of houses, and drying up of wells in Chau Hong commune and surrounding areas. “The six causes they presented are all natural, objective factors such as climate change, geological strata, and the activity of complex caves… It can be understood that the cause is groundwater depletion, but they couldn't specify why,” Mr. Tran Duc Loi said.
