Nghe An: Highlights of May 31st

*SOn May 31st, the Steering Committee for the Nghe An Provincial Election held a working session.Listen to the report on the overall election results.Members of the 15th National Assembly and representatives of People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term met and discussed several work-related issues.

The election in Nghe An was conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Election Law. The voter turnout rate reached 98.93%, the highest in recent elections, with Quy Chau district and Cua Lo town achieving 100% voter turnout. The elected candidates received a very high percentage of votes, averaging over 80% to over 90%.

Through the elections, voters elected 13 representatives to the 15th National Assembly, 83 representatives to the Provincial People's Councils, 736 representatives to the District People's Councils, and 10,885 representatives to the Commune People's Councils.

The Provincial Election Committee assessed that the election in the province was conducted seriously and rigorously; the atmosphere and public opinion of voters were generally very supportive and confident in this election.

*MA female worker returning from Bac Ninh province declared herself a close contact (F1) after her friend was confirmed to have Covid-19.

Mr. Ho Sy Duong, Director of the Hoang Mai Town Medical Center, said that the locality has just activated the Rapid Response Team and assigned the contact tracing team to conduct epidemiological investigations, trace close contacts to carry out isolation and take samples for testing.There is one F1 case returning from Bac Ninh.

This person has now been placed in centralized quarantine at the Quỳnh Lập Commune Health Station. The health authorities have also disinfected the homes of the F1 case and the identified F2 cases.

*TIn another development, in Dien Bich commune, a citizen tested positive for Covid-19 after leaving Laos. Following directives from the health sector, Dien Bich has implemented social distancing measures in accordance with Government Directive 15. However, discrimination against local residents has emerged, even though all test samples have come back negative for the virus. Due to this discrimination, many of the residents' seafood products are either unsaleable or being sold at unfairly low prices.

Mr. Nguyen Van Lien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bich commune, expressed: This unwarranted discrimination stems from people's lack of understanding of Directive 15/CT-TTg. *NOn May 31st, the People's Court of Nghe An province held a first-instance criminal trial.Three defendants are on trial.Vuong Quoc Trong (born 1977), Nguyen Hien Son (born 1989), both residing in Bac Ha ward, Ha Tinh city (Ha Tinh province), and Lo Van Minh (born 1971), residing in Kim Son town, Que Phong district, were charged with "illegally trading narcotics".

The court determined that in this case, the defendants participated in the trafficking of an exceptionally large quantity of drugs (4 kg of methamphetamine). All three defendants had a bad criminal record, therefore, Vuong Quoc Trong, Nguyen Hien Son, and Lo Van Minh were sentenced to death.
