It is rare for poultry farmers in the area to be here.Nghe AnPeople are excited right now because chicken and duck eggs have reached record prices amidst the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
The family of Mr. Le Van Giang in Dien Trung commune is currently raising 2,000 laying hens, which produce 1,300 eggs per day. According to Mr. Giang, for more than a week now, chicken eggsPrices have increased sharply, from 2,000 VND/fruit to 2,400 VND/fruit, while market demand remains high.
"For months now, chicken eggs have fluctuated between 1,400 and 1,700 VND per egg, resulting in negligible profits for farmers, and even losses at times due to rising feed prices. Now that the price has increased to 2,400 VND per egg, farmers are making a profit," Giang said excitedly.

Dien Trung commune has the largest number of laying hens in the province, supplying a significant amount of eggs to the market annually. (Mr. Dau Ngoc Hoa - Director of the Livestock Cooperative)VietGAP chickenAccording to Dien Trung commune, the price of chicken eggs has increased to 2,400 VND/egg for the past 10 days, making egg farmers happier. Currently, there are 24 egg-laying chicken farms in Dien Trung commune, supplying approximately 27,000 eggs per day to the market.
"Previously, chicken farmers had to contact customers to sell their eggs, but now customers from near and far proactively contact them, and some even come directly to the farms to buy. Eggs are mainly transported to southern provinces and Hanoi; some are consumed within the province, but 'supply cannot meet demand'. Not only have egg prices increased, but chicken meat prices have also risen from 45,000 VND to 52,000 VND/kg," Mr. Dau Ngoc Hoa shared.
Mr. Le Van Duong, the owner of a laying hen farm in Quynh Bang commune, Quynh Luu district, said that chicken eggs are currently selling well and at a high price. His herbal-fed eggs are selling for 3,500 VND each, and traders transport them to Hanoi for sale, but "supply cannot meet demand."

Similar to chicken eggs, duck eggs are also on the rise in price at this time. Yen Thanh district has a long tradition of duck farming, so it is also a major supplier to the market.duck eggsThe situation is quite significant. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, owner of a large-scale duck farm with thousands of laying ducks in Nam Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district), said that duck egg prices have increased in the past few days, with wholesale prices rising from 2,400 VND/egg to 3,000 VND/egg – a record increase. However, there are no eggs to sell because market demand is high, while the number of laying ducks in the population has decreased sharply.
Ms. Thuy believes that the increase in animal feed costs has led to fewer people raising ducks, resulting in a less abundant supply of duck eggs than before. This is the main reason for the price increase of duck eggs, as market demand has risen.
It has been found that chicken and duck eggs sold at retail in Nghe An province currently cost between 3,500 and 4,000 VND per egg, but many places do not have them for sale.
Rising egg prices are creating opportunities for poultry farmers to earn more income this season.Covid-19 pandemicThis is especially true given the continuous and sharp increase in animal feed prices since the beginning of the year.
