Nghe An applies AI and UAVs in disaster warning.

PL. February 4, 2026 16:18

Nghe An aims to minimize damage from natural disasters in the context of increasingly extreme climate change; while also promoting the modernization of its forecasting and warning systems using AI, big data, and drones, to help people proactively respond.

On February 3, 2026, the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued Plan No. 80/KH-UBND on strengthening the Party's leadership over the work of preventing, responding to, and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters, implementing Conclusion No. 213-KL/TW of the Party Central Committee.

The plan aims to proactively prevent and minimize damage caused by natural disasters in the context of increasingly complex extreme weather and climate change. Accordingly, the province will focus on modernizing the monitoring system, applying technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data to improve forecasting and warning capabilities. Information on rainfall and water levels will be transmitted in real time to enable people to proactively respond.

To ensure effective implementation, Nghe An province will review and institutionalize relevant legal regulations on disaster prevention and control; and adjust the operation process of interconnected reservoirs to prioritize flood control for downstream areas. The province will also prioritize investment in dikes, reservoirs, rescue roads, and power and communication systems.

In addition, the locality is stepping up projects to relocate residents from areas at risk of flash floods, landslides, and riverside and coastal areas; strengthening the disaster prevention and control task force at the commune level with the militia as the core; and organizing training on response skills for people in remote areas.

The Provincial People's Committee requested that the plan be implemented according to the principle of "clear responsibilities, clear tasks, clear timelines, and clear accountability." The Provincial Civil Defense Command (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment) was assigned to preside over monitoring and urging the implementation.
