Nghe An: Wild elephants trampled 2 hectares of acacia
(Baonghean.vn) -At 10:30 p.m. on October 10, during heavy rain, a herd of six wild elephantscame to destroy trees and crops of Mr. Phan Van Dai's family, Bai Da village, Phuc Son commune (Anh Son).

Mr. Phan Van Dai said: The whole family was sleeping when they heard a loud noise. When he woke up, he was shocked to see a herd of 6 elephants destroying his family's acacia hill. Mr. Dai immediately ran and shouted for the villagers to chase them away. But regardless, the herd of elephants destroyed 2 hectares of acacia and many trees in his family's garden.

Mr. Phan Ba Dong, head of Bai Da village, Phuc Son commune, said: As soon as they learned that elephants were causing damage in the area, the Anh Son Protective Forest Management Board was present and together with 20 young people in the village gathered to light a fire, shout, and make noise to chase away the elephants. It was not until 2:00 a.m. on October 11 that the elephants left the area. Fortunately, no people were attacked by the elephants.
According to the assessment, this could be a herd of wild elephants in Pu Mat National Park. In recent years, this herd of elephants has often come to cause havoc, damaging crops and trees of people in the buffer zones of Anh Son, Tuong Duong, and Thanh Chuong districts.

To ensure the safety of people and elephants, Anh Son district has directed Phuc Son authorities and related units to regularly patrol and promptly detect elephants when they appear in residential areas; coordinate with people to take measures to repel elephants... and at the same time put up danger warning signs in areas where elephants appear; absolutely do not use tools or weapons to attack, directly conflict or cause danger or provoke elephants./.
