Nghe An: Successfully developing a model for linking potato production in the winter crop.
On the morning of March 5th, in Hung Son commune, Anh Son district, the Center for Application of Scientific and Technological Advances, under the Department of Science and Technology of Nghe An province, organized a field workshop titled "Evaluating the effectiveness of the potato production linkage model in the winter crop season in Hung Son commune, Anh Son district".
In Nghe An province, prior to 2010, the average annual area planted with winter crops was 60,000-62,000 hectares. However, since 2010, winter crop production in Nghe An has dropped to just over half of that level.
In response to the above situation, and in order to contribute to the transformation of crop structure, increase the value of winter crop production, and build a linkage chain in production activities, in 2019, the People's Committee of Nghe An province and the Department of Science and Technology assigned the Nghe An Center for Application of Scientific and Technological Advances to implement the project: "Building a model of linked development of potato production associated with consumption from disease-free potato seed sources using aeroponic technology in Nghe An".
The project has successfully developed a potato production model with an average yield of 18-20 tons/ha, generating an income of 50-60 million VND/ha after deducting costs. Alongside model development, the project has established a strong and synchronized linkage among four stakeholders: the government, scientists, businesses, and farmers, with clearly defined roles and responsibilities for each party.
Furthermore, in order to apply technical advancements in the production of disease-free, diverse, and self-sufficient seed sources, thereby reducing costs and increasing productivity and economic efficiency from potato production, in 2022, the Nghe An Department of Science and Technology assigned the Nghe An Center for Application of Scientific and Technological Advances to implement the task of "Research, testing, and evaluation of the yield and quality of some certified potato varieties and the method of covering rows with plastic film in commercial potato production suitable for winter crop production conditions in Nghe An province".
The project successfully developed a model for commercial potato production using the plastic mulch method, achieving a 10-15% higher yield.

Although a potato production chain has been established and developed in Nghe An province, due to various factors, especially the Covid-19 pandemic, the area planted with winter potatoes in Nghe An province has decreased significantly.
In order to develop potato cultivation sustainably, the Center for Application of Advanced Science and Technology of Nghe An Province is implementing the scientific and technological task "Applying the technique of covering potato beds with nylon in building a model of linked production of commercial potatoes in the winter season in Anh Son district".
The model was implemented in the Trốc Bàu - Bãi Mơ alluvial area of Quang Tiến hamlet, Hùng Sơn commune, Anh Sơn district, on a scale of 3.2 hectares, following a production linkage chain with the participation of the State, scientists, businesses, and local people.
Following the implementation process, a successful potato production linkage model applying plastic mulch techniques was established in Hung Son commune, Anh Son district, covering an area of 3.2 hectares. The model achieved a yield of 25.93 tons/ha, with a standard yield of 22.741 tons/ha, generating nearly 67 million VND/ha in profit, and nearly 89 million VND/ha in actual profit for the farmers.
At the workshop, based on evaluating the economic efficiency of the model, cooperation methods, investment approaches, and production management, the aim was to maintain, expand, and develop the winter potato production model through a linked chain, enhance production value, and contribute to the transformation of the crop structure in Anh Son district.
