Catching grasshoppers isn't uncommon in rural areas, especially when grasshoppers or locusts damage crops. However, what attracts the attention and curiosity of many people is the method of "catching" grasshoppers.

Accordingly, people catch grasshoppers by attaching two tubular nets to either side of a motorbike, then driving the motorbike along the roads bordering the rice fields to herd the grasshoppers without affecting the rice plants. Local people say that the grasshopper catchers come from Dien Chau district, then transport them to Hanoi to be processed into dishes and also to supply food for those who raise pet birds. It is known that 1 kg of grasshoppers sells for 60,000 VND.

The practice of "hunting" grasshoppers and locusts is not a "campaign" to protect crops, but simply a way for some people to make a living. And this activity is also considered good for the environment," confirmed Mr. Ngoc Kim Nam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Do Luong District.
