Nghe An province fines person for posting false information about commune merger.
A man in Giai Lac commune (Nghe An province) was fined 12.5 million VND for posting false information about the merger of administrative units on social media.
On July 29th, the Giai Lac Commune Police announced that they had issued an administrative penalty against Mr. NSL (born in 1992, residing in Phu Cuong hamlet, Giai Lac commune) for providing and sharing false, fabricated, and unverified information.
Previously, through monitoring online activities, the Giai Lac Commune Police discovered that the Facebook account NSLbds had posted false information about the commune merger on a popular fan page. After verification, the police identified the account owner as Mr. NSL and summoned him for questioning.
At the police station, Mr. NSL admitted to the violation, voluntarily removed the false information he had posted, and pledged not to continue posting or sharing unverified information on social media.
Based on Clause 1, Article 95 of Government Decree No. 174/2026/ND-CP dated May 15, 2026, regulating administrative penalties in the fields of postal services, telecommunications, radio frequencies, electronic transactions, and information technology, the Giai Lac Commune Police fined Mr. NSL 12.5 million VND.
Following this incident, the Giai Lac Commune Police advised citizens to raise their awareness and responsibility when using social media; verify information before posting or sharing, and refrain from spreading false or unverified information that causes public panic and affects security and order.
