(Baonghean.vn) - Ginger is one of the main crops in Na Ngoi (Ky Son). During the ginger harvest season, local workers mainly go far away to work, many Mong households hire Thai and Kho Mu people in neighboring areas to "carry" (carry - PV) ginger from the fields and transport it to the gathering place.
From 5-6am, people (mainly Thai and Kho Mu) in Muong Ai, Huu Kiem and Na Ngoi communes were hired by Mong households to go to the fields to dig and "carry" ginger down the mountain. Photo: Khanh Ly - Thanh NgaThis job is quite hard because ginger plantations are often on steep slopes, requiring workers to have good health and endurance. The Mong people in Na Ngoi have started harvesting ginger since February, so they also have to hire workers to "carry" ginger for several months. They can carry 1 bag a day, 2 bags a day/person, but on average, the couple earns 1 million VND or more per day, both digging and carrying ginger. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, from Thai Hoa town, has been trading ginger since 2016, said that every week he buys and transports 3 trips, each trip carrying 7-8 tons, to sell to Thai Hoa market and retail markets in the north. Clip about ginger purchasing in Na Ngoi (Ky Son). Clip: Khanh LyMr. Xong Ba Denh - Chairman of Na Ngoi Commune People's Committee said: Last year, ginger prices were low (5-6 thousand VND/kg), this year is better, the price is slightly higher at 18 thousand VND/kg but compared to previous years (sometimes up to over 30 thousand VND/kg), it is still low. Although it is one of the main crops of the locality, because the labor force in the area mainly goes to work far away (about more than 500 people) and the price is unstable, the ginger growing area has decreased. In 2022, the whole commune harvested about more than 600 tons, this year it is estimated to be 300 tons of ginger. In the first 6 months of 2023, the ginger growing area of Na Ngoi commune reached 250 hectares/target of 300 hectares. Also according to Mr. Xong Ba Denh, due to lack of labor, Mong people often have to hire laborers from neighboring areas to dig, carry ginger, and transport it from the fields. Photo: Khanh Ly
