Ms. Nguyen Thi Nu (50 years old), a reputable peanut oil press operator in the area, shared that producing high-quality peanut oil requires clean, large, and uniform peanuts that have been carefully selected. The peanuts must be cooked through, not overcooked. Maintaining hygiene during the oil pressing process is equally important. (Photo: Huy Thu)

Currently, Tu Vien village has about 15 households engaged in the peanut oil pressing trade, concentrated in Hamlet 2, Thanh Luong commune. Some households operate on a large scale year-round, while others operate seasonally and on a small scale. Previously, peanut oil pressing was quite laborious due to the rudimentary equipment and tools. Now, the households have invested in various machines: peanut shelling machines, flour mills, pressing machines, etc. (Photo: Huy Thu)

Ms. Ngo Thi Trung (60 years old), a well-known peanut oil press owner in the village, shared: "During this season, my family usually stores several tons of shelled peanuts. On peak days, we produce about 100 liters of oil. Besides pressing oil for sale, my family also offers a pressing service. At this time of year, many people bring peanuts to us for pressing. The pressing fee is 10,000 VND per liter. On many days, we work all day and all night and still can't keep up." (Photo: Huy Thu)

After roasting, the peanuts are wrapped into thin, round cakes, similar in size to a plate, for easy oil pressing. The packaging used for wrapping the peanut powder must be clean, durable, and reusable. Photo: Huy Thu

According to local elders, making a batch of peanut oil used to be quite laborious. The whole family would stay up all night shelling peanuts or spread them out in the yard and use a rice threshing machine to crush them, then use a mortar and pestle to grind the peanut kernels into a fine powder. Pressing the oil required using stones and levers, which was arduous, time-consuming, and unproductive. (In the photo: Using a plate as a mold to package peanut powder. Photo: Huy Thư.)

Amidst the chaos of chemical use, peanut oil from Tu Vien village stands out as a natural product with a rich golden color, a distinctive aroma, and guaranteed quality, making it popular among many consumers. The product isn't sold at the market; customers often come directly to the producers to buy it. The selling price of peanut oil at the production facilities is 110,000 VND/liter (550,000 – 570,000 VND/5-liter can, about 100,000 – 120,000 VND/can higher than the same period last year). Besides earning profit and wages from oil pressing, the oil pressing profession also produces another product: oilseed meal. On average, 10 kg of peanuts, after pressing, will yield 6 kg of oilseed meal. For households engaged in oil pressing and livestock farming, oilseed meal is a good feed source for pigs, buffaloes, cows, chickens, ducks, etc. The current price of oilseed meal is 11,000 VND/kg, but it is also quite scarce.
