The news of artist Thuong Tin's death at the age of 70 on the morning of December 9th shocked many fans. According to his family, he passed away at noon on December 8th at his hometown. During the funeral, the image of his son, Thanh Tung, sitting dejectedly with a sorrowful face, was shared by musician To Hieu, deeply moving the public.

Health declines in later years.

Before his death, artist Thuong Tin's health had seriously deteriorated due to multiple underlying health conditions. He had suffered two strokes and had to rely on the support of friends, colleagues, and fans.

In 2023, an accident left him unable to walk and confined to a wheelchair. In October 2024, the artist suffered another accident resulting in a broken bone. Due to a lack of timely treatment, he developed muscle atrophy as a complication. In his final years, he ceased artistic activities, primarily relying on the support of family and the generosity of his fans.

The illustrious career of an actor

Artist Thuong Tin, whose real name is Bui Thuong Tin, was born in 1956 in Phan Rang into a family with nine children. At the age of 13, he ran away from home to join a Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) troupe, beginning his artistic career. Later, he studied at the Saigon National School of Music and Drama and joined renowned spoken drama troupes such as Cuu Long Giang and Kim Cuong.

Not only successful on stage, Thuong Tin also made a big impact when he ventured into the film industry. He is considered one of the leading actors of Vietnamese cinema in the 1980s and 1990s. His name is associated with many classic roles such as Major Vong in "The Upside Down Card Game," the bandit Bach Hai Duong in "Hunting Thieves," and Sau Tam in "Saigon Commando."

Regarding his personal life, artist Thuong Tin was married to Thuy Tien and had a son, Bui Thanh Tung. In his final days, he lived in his hometown with his mother and was cared for by relatives.
