The spokesperson told CNN that the two police officers sustained injuries, but they are not life-threatening.

According to VRT television, one police officer was stabbed in the neck and another was attacked in the stomach. The attacker then punched a third officer in the nose when he arrived at the scene.

VRT television station added that the attacker was shot in the leg, then apprehended and transported away by ambulance.

The Belgian federal prosecutor's office has not yet commented on the case or explained why it is handling it. In Belgium, the federal prosecutor's office is responsible for investigating cases involving criminal and terrorist organizations.

Brussels has been on high alert since the March 2016 bombings at Brussels airport and a metro station that killed 32 people.

In the early afternoon of October 5th, the Gare du Nord train station in Brussels was also closed for an hour due to a bomb threat. The station later resumed normal operations after a bomb disposal team inspected the area.
