Ms. Nguyen Thi My in Hamlet 17, Nghi Trung Commune, grows 2 sao of winter-season sticky corn. Although the yield is lower than the spring crop, according to Ms. My, in late winter, sticky corn sells very well. On average, it costs 3,000-4,000 VND/cob (the selling price is 500-1,000 VND/cob higher than the spring crop). After deducting the cost of fertilizer, seeds, and production costs, her family earns over 10 million VND/crop from 2 sao of sticky corn.

The waxy corn varieties grown by Nghi Loc farmers in the winter crop are mainly MX2; MX4; MX10; ... This is a high-yielding waxy corn variety, with many advantages such as: large corn, soft kernels, full and even kernels on the corn cob from the inside out. The growing period is short (about 70-75 days), 35 days shorter than growing red corn for grain for livestock. With a planting density of 600-650 plants/sao, each plant, on average, yields 2-3 cobs.

This winter crop, the entire Nghi Loc district planted 500 hectares. The waxy corn area of ​​Nghi Loc is mainly concentrated in many communes such as: Nghi Truong, Nghi Thinh, Nghi Hop, Nghi Thuan, Nghi Khanh, Nghi Long, Nghi Phong, Nghi Trung. Because at the beginning of the season, the corn plants were flooded, so the yield was only 15 tons of fresh corn/ha, (3 tons less than the spring crop). With a total area of ​​500 hectares, after deducting the cost of fertilizer, seeds, and care, Nghi Loc earned 55 billion VND this winter crop.
