According to RIA Novosti on March 1st, in an interview with CNN following the meeting between the US and Ukrainian leaders, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Europe is proposing to continue the conflict in Ukraine for another year in the hope of weakening Russia.

"I asked everyone, what is Europe's plan to end the war? I can tell you what one foreign minister told me. I won't say who, but I can tell you one of them told me that the war would last another year until Russia would feel exhausted, to the point where Moscow would ask for peace," the US Secretary of State said.

Rubio added that another year of conflict would lead to even more destruction and loss of life. And from the American perspective, such a plan is unrealistic.

The meeting between the US President and the Ukrainian President, held at the White House on February 28th, ultimately turned into a heated argument. According to Fox News, President Donald Trump demanded that President Volodymyr Zelensky leave the White House due to sharp disagreements over ending the conflict, and the agreement on rare earth metals had collapsed.

Earlier, CBS News, citing senior sources close to the US leader, reported that what happened at the White House raised questions about suspending aid to Ukraine. The sources noted that, following the dispute, Ukrainian officials tried their best to get the White House back to discussing the agreement, but to no avail, as President Trump did not want to talk to Zelensky.
