The village where no baby boy was born for 12 years
The village of Miejsce Odrzańskie has no baby boys, so the mayor has decided to offer a big reward to any family that gives birth to a boy.
Most of the 300 residents of the village of Miejsce Odrzańskie are women. Experts are still at a loss as to why couples in this southern Polish village only have daughters. The youngest boy living in the village is now 12 years old.
Mayor Rajmund Frischko has pledged a big reward to the first family to give birth to a boy following the surge in girls. The value of the prize has not been disclosed, but he promised it would be "a very attractive gift".
The children in the village are mostly girls. |
Professor Tomasz Golasz, who lives in the village, said the head of the volunteer fire brigade here is also a woman. "This has been going on for decades. I came to the village a long time ago and married a local girl. We have two daughters. The neighbors all had daughters, although they always wanted and tried to have a boy," the professor shared.
News of the unusual gender imbalance in the village of Miejsce Odrzańskie has spread throughout Poland and attracted much attention. Professor Rafał Płoski, Head of the Department of Medical Genetics at the Medical University of Warsaw, believes that further examination of historical records and statistics is needed to find the cause of this mysterious phenomenon. The researchers also plan to interview parents and children in the village with different living conditions to get the most accurate answer.
