“Previously, every time oysters were harvested, we had to scrape and discard the mussels to clean the rafts, ropes, and shells. However, in recent years, these mussels have been bought by traders to feed lobsters, so black mussels have brought a significant source of income to the people,” said Mr. Truong Quang Hung, a resident of Quynh Lap commune. Like Mr. Hanh Thu's household, which has 7 oyster rafts, the price of oysters is currently high, so his family is focusing on harvesting. After harvesting the oysters, the oyster ropes and rafts are pulled up, and he hires workers to shuck the mussels, pack them into sacks, and sell them to traders.

Many locals harvest mussels to sell to traders, earning extra income. To catch mussels, fishermen have to search along the edges of bridges, rocky shores, and piles of stakes... In deeper waters, fishermen use boats to rake them. Hardworking individuals can earn 250,000 – 300,000 VND per day. (Photo: TP)
