Fishermen in Nghe An province earn millions of dong per day using seine nets.
(Baonghean.vn) - In early April, the beach in Quynh Phuong ward, Hoang Mai town, became busier as the squid season began; fishermen could earn millions of dong per day pulling in their seine nets, so everyone was excited.

While everyone else was asleep, around 1 AM, fishermen in Quynh Phuong ward hurriedly called each other to set sail, as this was the time when squid came out to feed. During this season, the sea was calm, and many species of squid and fish gathered close to the shore.
Seine fishing requires the combined strength of a team. Each net requires 13-15 workers because the net is very heavy. Two small boats or coracles sail out to sea to cast the net, and after about 2.5-3 hours, they pull the net back to shore in an arc.

As soon as the nets are pulled ashore, the fishermen quickly remove the squid and fish from the nets. Besides squid, there are also various types of fish that live near the shore, such as herring, scad, and grouper.
While busily untangling fish, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Luong from Than Ai Hamlet, Quynh Phuong Ward, said: "The first net haul at dawn always yields more fish and squid. On average, each boat family pulls in two hauls per session, with some hauls yielding a bountiful 30-40 kg of squid. However, the price of freshly caught squid is always very high, selling for 200,000 VND/kg at the beach, providing a considerable income."
Most of the workers are family members, and their income is divided according to output. On busy days, each worker can earn 500,000 - 700,000 VND per shift, while on slow days they still earn over 100,000 VND.

Quynh Phuong boasts beautiful beaches that attract many tourists, especially during the summer. The numerous beachfront shops also provide a convenient location for traders to purchase seafood for their distributors.
At the dock, squid is currently priced at around 200,000 VND/kg, herring at 25,000 VND/kg, and scad at 30,000 VND/kg... Many tourists and housewives are also taking advantage of the wait to buy the freshest products.
